Terrestrials
What are some of the best methods for presenting and animating terrestrials such as grasshoppers, spiders, and mice? I will be fishing around some cattails, close to shore of some stillwater. Grasshoppers (live) are on the downside of being active, but some are still around.

Try gently mending your line, which make the fly twitch and move. This isn't a popping bug pop, but something much more subtle.

Fast then slow
When a terrestrial hits the water it is usually very unhappy. It will struggle madly for a short while, then goes still. Then another flurry of activity trying to esacpe, then still.
However you are personally able to accomplish something similar to this is what you want to do.

Guide instruction
when I was handed a Chernobyl ant to fish was to smash it down. Not to do any kind of gentle presentation. It sure worked.
