Tips
What is a tip you could share that you learned the hard way? Mine is to always carry and extra pair of shoe laces for your wading boots. I went on a trip way up into northern new england, and snapped a frayed lace when tying my boots, and spent the rest of the day emptying gravel out of the damn things.

Always! Always! Double check gear before leaving. So your not suprised to find you left your waders and boots on the garage floor after a 2hr drive at 4:00am.

You cant catch fish with your fly in the air!

I have not learned this the hard way, but it is just good common sense. Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.

Assemble your rod and tie on a fly, any fly, at your car.
Searching for your rod tip after a long walk down a wooded trail is not much fun. I found it hanging from a tree branch.
I have also lost a rod tip over the side of a boat on a pre-dawn trip. The next day I went diving for it near the boat launch. I found a rod tip, but it wasn't mine. At least I'm not the only one.

Always pack an extra set of clothes in the event you decide to take the temperature of Michigan's Pere Marquette river with your entire body. Hypothetical situation of course.

If you have an outboard motor serviced,
double check the cotter pin in the lock nut
for the propeller. Not only that it's there
and properly bent, but also that it is
stainless steel. An outboard motor without
a propellor is just extra weight to paddle
home.*G* Warm regards, Jim

If you're wearing Gore-Tex waders and get some water in them after a dunk, staying in the water more for the rest of the day (assuming you're not hot enough to sweat alot) will get you dried out faster. The greater the temperature difference on the two sides of the wader, the faster you will dry out.

Always wear tethers for fins when float tubing...even if you have floating fins.
*hint-keep a roll of duct tape in your vehicle. It's very versatile.
