The DNR has stocked the Huron River in the Proud Lake Rec Area in Wixom Michigan with some very respectable sized trout. If your a beginner that wants to get you feet wet in an environment where the "catching" is easy this is your ticket. If your more advanced and want to catch that monster, you will be pleased to.
Yep to many in SE Michigan it's a rite of spring. Some call it " Stocker Fest". Flies only C & R April 1st thru the regular trout opener. I used to go out 1-2 times each spring but haven't done so for at least 5-6 seasons. You ought to see the regular season opener the last Saturday of April-what a zoo! Bait Fishers lined up elbow to elbow fighting to catch their limits.
This program has been going on since the 1970's. The Mich DNR & a club got it going to offer Detroit area anglers a chance to fish for trout in the region. It was a pretty big story the first year it occurred.
