Thread whoes........
was tying this eve,and thought my Griffin ceramic bobbin was chew'in up the thread from the infeed end of the tube.
But upon close inspection while cleaning the tube with a really heavy super thread,I found it was in the spool of 3/0 itself...about midway through the spool I hit a section where it was almost solid with wax. That had apparently hardened with age.
Anyone else ever encounter such things ?...was a first with a "Bad" spool for me..

Hi Bill,
Yes, unfortunately this does happen from time to time. It is especially a problem with waxed, single strand floss. I have had some luck fixing the problem by placing the spool (not bobbin) in the micro for a minute to a minute and a half. If that doesn't work for you try pulling off the offending thread and get down to the thread with less wax. Worst case senario, another spool of thread is a couple of dollars. Take care & ...

I have not had that problem, but I have had trouble with a couple of other spools.
One had split in the center and all the thread had dropped lower in that section.
Kept binding on itself.
Now if I have trouble I just pitch it.

I've never had that problem before either, but I've not been tying that long either. But a problem I did run into the other day was with some super glue...again! Last time I glued my fingers to a foam hopper...this time while I was trying to glue the foam to the hook. I started to squeeze the glue out but it wouldnt come out so I squeezed a bit harder and SPLAT! all over the fly, my wifes new kitchen table, and down my bobbin and on to the thread. There was about 150 yards left on the spool and now its all ruined! Yeah I know its only $2.00 for some thread but still, money that doesnt need to be spent and it left me feeling like a jerk for ruining my wifes table.

Sorry about the table Tim,I keep my tying to my tying desk...could'nt tye for the first 6 mo here till I bought a new one...Just won't tye without my own desk.....which while on the subject....If anyone were considering the drop top(face folds down) model from cabela's......I'd advise against this.
Reason's:
1. Once your settup to tye,and "with a clamp mount vise" this is really a major pain in the a**,accessing the pull out drawer....is damn near impossible.
2. not near high enough for one of 6' or better stature.
3.the fit& finnish..you gotta finnish it,and some screw holes are out of alignment to the extent where you'll not be able to use em at all...
There are other annoyance's......
Anyone in the Cuse area wanting to sell a rolltop????????????????????? cheap!!!!

I like some brands of thread, but not the spool the thread is packaged on. That is why I save the empty spools that I perfer and transfer other brands of thread to the empty spools I save.
I place the full spool in the bobbin, and using a wood dowel segment (Tapered) in my cordless drill, I transfer the thread to the replacement spool.
You can also transfer the thread to a different spool, using a sewing machine bobbin winder.

Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
"Swim" said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can"
