tip top glue options
I am about to tackle my first build and I have ordered everything except tip top glue. Is this something I can get at a craft store or will I need to wait to get some shipped in? I am in Jackson, MS, so unless academy sports or bass pro sales tip top glue, the internet may be my only option.

5 minute Devcon is what I use - you want something that sets up fairly quickly for the tip top.

High temp hot glue. Heat the tiptop with a lighter or alcohol lamp. Scoop some glue off the stick. Heat again and stick it on the blank. Let cool and remove any excess glue with your thumbnail.

The same glue that you would use for a hot glue gun?

Listen to Kevin, he knows more than I do.

Here in Arizona the Hot Glue is not the best to use, I have had the several tips come loose from being in the heat, especiall inside a vehicle or trunk. I have started using 5 minute epoxy, and even used superglue, but with the superglue, you had better be right on when placing the tip. I have done so many that I have it down to a science, and rarely miss. I have even resorted to using the tiniest spot of superglue for my guide placement. just enough so that after wrapping it will brake loose if you nee to do any furthur guide alignment.

I have used hot glue (the same stick that comes with a hot glue gun) for a number of rods. I now use a hot glue stick that is made specifically for tip tops that seems to melt at a higher temp and does not go soft in hot weather. I live in Florida and have had several tip tops come loose when using the normal hot glue. I've always been afraid to use epoxy, but it may be the best bet for hot climates.

I use the stuff that comes with a tip top repair kit from the fishing section of a big name store. No problems with loosening. I too live in Florida.
