I will be doing a fishing trip to the Taylor/East/Gunnison Rivers area in late September and was looking for advice regarding flies, what weight rods, clothes, etc. This will be my first trip and don't know what to expect. Any advice?

i would bring a 3-4-5 wt rod. Don't really need anything bigger in Colorado, IMHO. Weather wise, be prepared for anything from 90deg sunshiney day to rain/hail to snow. As far as flies, bring the usual nymphs and dry's and lots of hoppers. We had a rather large crop of hoppers this year, their doing well all over from what I understand.

I won't go near a river in Colorado with out a few streamers. Any time....Any place.
elkhair caddis 14 to 18
elkhair caddis 14 to 18
that's what they tell me!
By September, the Caddis SHOULD be tapering off.
Although with the screwed up weather we have had this year, we may get caddis hatches deep into November.
Geeze, the weather is crazy in Colorado.
you will definitely want fbpts in 18-22 or even 24. barr's emergers, same sizes. especially in the hog hole at the taylor.
standard nymphs and dries elsewhere. there'll be caddis about. I'm not sure about other bugs that time of year.
streamers in the gunny will work well.
dragonfly anglers in crested butte is a great source of info.
