There is an AK Best vice on the Washington fly fishing board. I fought hard and declined it, but oh, how I wanted it.

Thanks, now the rest of us can have the moral struggle!! What is that site again?
Mike
Had often heard those McKenzie vises had problems with the jaws, and considering that the manufacturer is long gone, I would be reluctant to purchase one myself unless it were as a conversation piece. YMMV.
I had an early AK Best vise with the heavy base including the third hand.
I never had a problem with the jaws. I thought the jaws were the best part of the vise. Certainly provided good hook clearance
The funny thing about my early production run is that the manual which came with it used photos of an HMH vise. I think the manual was printed before the vise wss available
Karen, what is it about the AK vise that appeals to you so much? I'm assuming it's not its value as a collectible, because the example I saw at WAFF didn't look particularly special. I appreciate fly tying tools and own far more than I need, but I'm not understanding the desirability of it. Is it functionally superior to an HMH?
Wow, you're making me think about that - I wanted one a long time ago and couldn't ever find one on the market, now I don't tie so much, here it is.
I have one I would be willing to part with ?.....Jim
Get thee behind me, Satan.
