How much backing 4 the Pacific NW?
Morning Moose. 6" of snow this am. My pick up looks like it has 5-6" of snow sitting on it. Way too windy to enjoy the beauty of it. I will be hiding in my cave today.
Anywhoooo.....I have plans to do the summer in the Pacific NW. I do not need much backing where I am now. I would like to know how much backing I SHOULD have on my reels to fish up there. I have lot's of rods and reels. Reels not lined yet. In the 7wt to 10 wt range I would like to know how much backing is necessary......so I can match reels with proper backing and lines....to the rods I have.
Would appreciate any help and or advice.
Thanks in advance.

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late...
Afternoon now Gem, takin' me all day to read the board...well for backing, I like the reel to be full so I don't have to crank so fast once attached to a biggun'...so for me anyway, I reel the line on, attach backing then reel till the spool is full. That will generally give you more backing than you'll ever need. Everyone has given you great advice also.
For steel I feel ok with 100/150 yards of backing if the reel allows it, or enough to fill the spool no matter how much it is.
Cheers,
