I did find what appears to be pretty good stuff on Amazon - got 12 large feathers (10 eye, 2 sword) for under $10. Haven't tied any flies using stripped herl with it, yet. I also found that steaming my old stuff has helped a lot.

Scott
Do you remember the seller?
What's a steamer?
teapot = steamer
I just placed an order yesterday, for more of this Peacock from Spirit River. I have been using both the colored Iridescent Eyes and UV Eyes for awhile and really like them. Nature's Spirit also offers dyed eyes but the quality in no way compares to the stuff from Spirit River:
Here are some Midge patterns using the different colors of herl from Spirit River:

Fishy, this is a link that I had saved for better PC quills but...I have not used them as yet b/c I've not run dry. So..just an FYI but if you order I hope it helps you. Best I can do.

Oh, that kind of steamer - thought maybe it was something British.

A pretty ratty herl (standard packaged stuff you find in shops these days) - top part has been steamed, bottom is as it came out of the package. May not look like much, but it does make a difference when you wrap it on a hook. I'd like to see what Stone River has (didn't they used to be Hunters?); legend has it that Ed Story at Feather-Craft had the best herl, the stuff they'd sell to Lefty, Clouser, Whitlock, et al.
