Browser question ... potential lightbulb moment
This past while, I've had problems getting FAOL to work correctly in my Explorer browser (lights, login, etc). A bit before that, I couldn't get photobucket to work (uploads, etc). Both of these "malfunctions" happened after upgrades were done on both these sites.
Just for the heck of it, I tried the Safari browser last night for both these sites and  both worked fine!! Which brings me to my question. I have Mac OS X 10.4. (It has been upgraded every time anything has been presented.) With the new OS X the Safari showed up, and I paid little (ok ... no) attention to it. Is Safari the new Explorer? Is it the browser needed to use the new technologies on the web? If an earlier version of Mac (9 or 10) was still being used would the Explorer browser still be usable?
It would be lovely to think it's as simple as that, but were that the case, I'd have to quit whining, and Ron would quit writing to me, and I'd have to say something nice about him.
Is that it?
Re: Browser question ... potential lightbulb moment
We have a whole bunch of Mac's running OS X at work. The only two browsers that work are Safari and Firefox.
Microsoft no longer suppors Explorer on OS X.
If Safari works for you by all means use it. Around here it's the first choice.
Re: Browser question ... potential lightbulb moment
Thank you for that enlightment!!
I kind of left Safari on the side and really didn't give it any thought. Explorer had always worked till these upgrades. Explorer has been removed, Safari set in line, and FAOL as my homepage.
Now, to write letter to Ron!
Re: Browser question ... potential lightbulb moment
Betty, I too am running a Mac and I have had no trouble with this site on my explorer but have had problems with other sites so I will try the same sites with Safari, thanks for the tip!
I have to use a P.C. at work and if I compare the two I have to say the Mac rocks and the P.C. is very frustrating. Does anyone know why P.Cs seem to crash or freeze up so regularly when the Mac never does?
All the best.
MIke.

I am IT professional supporting company with both systems and this just made me smile. I hear the same thing going both ways. Some PC users are saying that Mac's are better and some Mac users are complaining that their Mac's have a lot more problems then PC's.
Apples and oranges. Both systems have their place. I woud not even try intesive graphics or video editing on the PC. And most of regular office prductivity software just runs and behaves better on the PC- and then there is the cost consideration... Oh and try finding some of the latest and greatest games that would run on the Mac - good luck.
My PC at home did not crash since some time in 2005. My PC's at work run like swiss watches. My wife's computer constantly crashes because of the Web sites and downloads she constantly does. I keep telling her but she just won't listen... :? Don't get offended but a lot of problems reside between the chair and the keyboard my dear wife being a prime example. Now both systems still have and will have issues for the forseeable future but when you think about this the whole industry is still a neewbie and it is getting better all of the time.

I'm in that chair right now ... get offended? I think not!! It's all still so new to me, I ask questions ... and usually listen!! Now, "frustrated" is another story!!
Re: Browser question ... potential lightbulb moment
Wife uses MSN and till recently never had a problem. She recently tried to get online and it wouldn't let her till she clicked on the box saying that she HAD TO upgrade from 9.0 to 9.2 and it has screwed up her computer something terrible. She couldn't get online that day unless she upgraded according to whatever was on screen at the time. Since then she's had all kinds of problems. Had similar problems a while back when upgrading my Netscape from 7.2 to 8.0. Went back to 7.2 and except for being slower than molasses with an antiquated dial up am doing okay. Does anybody ever really upgrade without a problem - rhetorical question!!!

I'm glad you brought up the issues your wife is having with her home PC.
I have made every mistake imaginable, learned the hard way (the only way I learn anything)
Some site is offering FREE downloads!! Could be something attached! :(
I used to wander around looking for new Wallpaper, I stick with Webshots only.
When some site offers you something for free, it might cost you!
