extended mayfly body made simple
creating an extended mayfly body:
Attachment 10308
clamp needle into vise, wax the tip, gently start spinning dubbing around the shaft
Attachment 10309
stack, then add deer hair, allowing tips to extend past the needle point for tail tips.
Attachment 10310
build up the body to desired thickness, don't worry about loose fibers.
Attachment 10311
apply head cement, don't be shy, you want to soak deep into the fibers.
Attachment 10312
using your finger, smooth all loose fibers down.
immediately after, "push" the body off the needle from the side closest to the vise, place the body in pliers, give body desired curve while drying.
this can be found in the spring 2012 Fly Tyer magazine, just thought i would post for those who don't subscribe to it.... hope it helps, and happy tying!
spoof
ps-these help with weight, since they are hollow.

Norm at Norvise has a video tutorial of this similar technique
http://youtu.be/Qg8Up5ph8Fo I have always thought it was a pretty cool way of doing these, and it's the only regret I have about owning a regal vise. It's tough to do without a true rotary I have found.
