Hey Dave,
When not fishing, you can find me afield exercising my two German Short-haired pointers, or walking fields with my brothers - hunting Indian artifacts (arrowheads etc.)
Best regards, Dave S.
It's called "vegging", and I have it down to a science.

Mark
I have five other major activities that I enjoy when I am not fly fishing during the summer.
1. fly tying
2. reading about fly fishing
3. reading about fly tying
4. thinking about fly fishing
5. thinking about fly tying
Seriously, 8T :)
I have a 14 year old daughter.
Any questions?
We have a "camp"
There's plenty of work to be done and a small pond for fishing, but most effort goes into cooking and eating

Both running camps? Strong contributions, guys.
O.K. then is it camping, as in tents, open air camping or have you built structures or are you R.V'ing it.
Must be nice, Dave
Kayaking (no whitewater please, I'm old), target archery, .22 plinking, and camping if I'm lucky.
I still spend a lot of time in the mountains. Yosemite, Kings Canyon & Sequoia parks. When we are not there, we are probably shooting trap or skeet.
Tying flies and jigs is what I do most in my "chill time". I'm also getting gear fixed and ready for waterfowl hunting.
This summer, my grandpa and his brother are working on building a toy shed. We're building rafters and putting siding on this week... It will be used for hunting/fishing gear storage, and a place to clean and process whatever we're shooting or catching.

I paint, watercolors and oils. I am also a woodworker and I am building a 14 ft. fishing boat.
Well if I'm not fishing, or building rods, my other passion comes into play

Leisure time without fishing during Summer? !!!!!!
Such a thing does not exist!!!!
Like Len, I also have a 14-year old daughter...and she has a boyfriend. My wife and I are driving her CRAZY...which means we must be doing something RIGHT! :)
Any leisure time SHOULD be spent fishing and/or tying, but sometimes there's just "chillin' " to be done. Sit back, relax and enjoy. Maybe have a cigar or pipe and a beverage on the back deck. Walk around and check out the backyard flora & fauna:

If I am not fishing, I may be flint-knapping, building bows, arrows and atlatls, or weaving slings, shooting my slingshots, river-running in my kayaks, snorkeling, searching the mountain for Bigfoot, Ancient Indian sites, fossils, or just neat-looking rocks.

With owning a one-man handyman business, and living in the city, there is not much time to do any sort of fishing. Most of my spare time is not really spare time, but I do enjoy doing this when I have the time...

Gigmaster,
Is that one of the bows you build? If so, well done. Do you ever use sinew to back your bows?
REE
What do I do when not fishing?
Sleep
Work
Household chores
Church on Sundays
And...spend time with my wonderful 13 yr old daughter who drags me to kiddie/teen movies, talks my ear off, compells me to listen to new music (most of which grates my nerves!), steals my cool T-Shirts (and hats), stole my Jackson Coosa, and generaly makes my life worth living. I absolutely love her to death!
Other than that, I got no time left over for anything but fishing. Wish i did because like I've seen in the earlier posts, there is a whole lot of really cool stuff to do!
Thanks for sharing your passions. I've enjoyed them.
Derek
I made that bow from a hickory stave, with a hickory handle block, and backed it with rattlesnake skin. Hickory doesn't really need any backing. That particular bow is aprox. 75 pounds draw weight.
I want to try to make an Assyrian Horse Bow from horn and sinew, but I haven't gotten around to it, yet.
I make rabbit sticks, atlatls and slings as well.
