These Wooly Apids were all over yesterday. The trout were almost churning the water after them. They were in a size 18 or 20.
What would you throw to imitate these?

I think a CDC pattern would be best using white CDC puffs for the body and add twinkle organza wings.

When I saw your picture, I said to myself CDC, then I read silver creek's answer. I agree 100% I might add a quick wrap of ostrich hurl at the tie off point as legs and forgo the wings.

What a strange looking bug.
If I was out on a lake and these things showed up I would tie on a size 18 or 20 Griffith's Gnat for starters. If that didn't work then my smallest Parachute Adams.

I live in central Wi, I saw those very same insects in my back yard on the day spinner posted his message. They are very unusual bugs and they look like lint or a seed floating in the air until you notice that they are flying and not floating.
I'm thinking the CDC Trico patterns I carry would cover it in a pinch?
I'm pretty sure I saw a few of these yesterday while I was floating on the Hooch here in the ATL burbs. Would not have had a clue on what they were. Looked like a little white piece of lint.
