Black Scud Beetle
Hey All,
I've been reading Al Campbell's Fly Tying articles lately. Last night I tied a scud (part 10) that turned out amazingly. I used a black dubing material on black thread. Where the column asked for a back material I looked in my kitchen drawer and found some blue saran wrap. Get it wet so it doesn't stick to itself. Then I tied it as the article said, using the thread as a rib. The blue on black turned out to look exactly like beetle skin. Try it out, you'l like it!
Thanks,
Dan Porter

Nice tip! I wonder if that could also be worked into (adult) damselfly bodies for more shine.
