A thread in another forum has me wondering about adding a fighting butt to my 8wt. Two questions. Does it change the balance? How do you do it? I see no way to remove the butt cap on this rod. Thank you.

Coach Robb:
From other thread's I think it takes heat to soften the epoxy. Hair drier or hot water. You only want to remove one part not the whole assembly. So submerse the very butt of the reel seat in hot water, protected by a baggie. Hmmmmm!! Better let one of the other guy's finish this.
I'll just tag along to find the answer!
Some butt caps screw, some are glued.
When you get it off then you can decide what to do.
If your butt cap unscrews.. easy.. buy a fighting butt that will screw in.
Otherwise, take a piece of scrap rod blank that will fit into the end of the rod blank inside your reel seat and glue the cork rings or preformed fighting butt to it. Glue the blank pieces together.
Or..carve a dowel to fit in the end of the reel seat. If you add some gaskets to the dowel you can make the butt removeable.

Last two post were pretty good. Here's another option. remove the butt cap as described above. measure the I.D. of the reel seat. You may be able to purchase a removable fighting butt fitting and matching fighting butt. Pacific Bay makes one . I know they can be purchased from Hook and hackle and your questions about whether or not it will fit your application can be answered there. Good Folks..
If worse comes to worse and nothing fits.
You can always buy a long cork fighting butt , and with the use of a dremel tool hollow out the butt enough to slip over the seat by and inch or so and direct epoxy it.
Your measurements in the hollowing out process must be exact or very close, other wise the fit will be sloppy and not insure a good bond. PS as for balance: no real change
