Didymo in NZ
Hi everyone just a quick note to let you all know that the finding of Didymo in the North Island of N.Z. was a false alarm, the samples were contaminated because the "scientists" doing the sampling used some equipment that they had also used in the South Island on infected waterways! :(
Ever wonder why most peaple no longer trust scientists? I can hardly believe they where that stupid, they could easily spread this stuff to every river they test!
Anyway at least the North Island is still Didymo free and the Tongariro is fishing very well at the moment.
All the best.
Mike.

Re: Didymo in NZ
Unfortunate even scientist make mistakes.
I read that the sterilizing solution used on ff boots won't get down to the base of felt soles and this could lead to Didymo being spread to other waters. That a thorough drying is needed which has lead some to purchase multiple pairs of felt sole boots or replace them with rubber soles and spikes.

Re: Didymo in NZ
Quite right Tyronefly, if using felt soled boots then the best way to make sure you are not spreading Didymo is to clean them, then freeze them for 24 hours. This should kill any spores left in the felt.
All the best.
