FL. fish-in
It's February, only 18 days till the fish-in! I've been pre fishing, caught Redfish last weekend and Trout this weekend. The water is still a little cool for my taste, but the fish are there! I know some of you will be here early and some are coming Friday and Saturday. I could use a rough count of how many will be here for breakfast on Friday and Saturday so I can make sure they have enough staff on hand ( Flatsdude will need two waitresses just for him I think!). Please send me an e-mail or respond here.
Thanks and I am really looking forward to fishing with all of you!

By Friday and Saturday I should have a sun tan and a hunger. Count me in.

i'm getting nervous for you guys, bill. i already got an email from flats dude about the fishin that said simply: send lawyers, guns and money...
-
He's just using the lawyers to chum the water. The guns and money are bait for the lawyers.
-
AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!, eh?
-
I've passed out the bribes to the local law enforcement already, and will be sending the young'n to safer waters till the pirate flag disapears over the horizon!
Bill
-
Bill,
Well, it looks like I will not be going to the fish-in after all. I will be going to my grandma's 90th birthday party instead. My family finally decided to have it. At least it will be in Vegas. So, that will not be too bad.

I was thinking about joining in. Then I read a post about the Fish-in and it said you had to be able to cast into your backing. So, where can I find a 50 foot WF8F line for salt water? So seriously, if this poor trout angler can only manage a short cast can I expect to cathc any fish out in the salt? This will be my first attempt at salt, but I'd really like to escape the frigid temps here in PA and feel a fish on the end of my line. What do you all think?

Fish more, work less!
-
RickB, You will still catch fish. 50 feet is plenty. Also, we will have 2 pro's here who have kindly offered to give some instruction on casting. The fish here are not that spooky, the biggest thing that casting far does is let you cover more water with each cast.
Bill
-
Paul, sorry to hear you can't make it. Grandma is more important. I'm sure we can get another chance to fish. You know how to reach me.

Bill, Michele and I are booked at Sailwinds and Might be in Thurs night to unload some of the booty, is it true that Harold doesn't drink http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/frown.gif, The Rum order has been processed, and Wine (white ok). I can't find fresh pineapples or coconuts in this neck of the woods for the Dudes magic blend.
Philip
-
nope, harold doesn't drink. But don't worry, the dude and I will drink his share! we can find some piney apple things the dude likes.
Bill
-
Oh yeah, we can handle Harold's share....ah yes, pina coladas and grilled shrimp, I did hear you say you have 100 lbs of shrimp (jumbos) didn't I Bill?
-
I thought you said YOU were bringing the shrimp!
Bill
-
Nope, t'weren't me...musta been Harold, or Stev!*G* I know I heard it from one of YOU guys when I was down the last time...Maybe it was Ed, and since he ain't comin', well...
-
No shrimp for you! The shrimp are gone.
On another note...

Nice trout! And in the middle of winter, to boot.
-
Dude
Not only did he catch it in the middle of winter but it looks like he caught it in the middle of the kitchen.
Just kidding, now I am jealous.....
-
Yeah, and out of a cooler in the kitchen....dang, Ed, how'd he do dat? *G*
-
Never mind the cooler. The cooler is not the subject.
This was caught at the c-24 spillway in Port St. Lucie. It's been flowing strong the last few days and the big fish have moved in. It's been a free-for-all with snook, trout, jacks, ladyfish, and even largemouth bass in the mix. Brackish water is a wonderful thing.
My friend, who's name also happens to be Ed, landed this beast using light tackle; a small rod using 8lb test and a DOA shrimp (rootbeer).

Maybe we should fish that area when Jed comes down? Sunday after next right?
-
Gary, that would suit me just fine. I know it would be a shorter drive for Jed. Then again, you would have a southbound drive. It's not too far from you I think. Is it?

Ed, I think it's around a 3 hr drive...I'll check the GPS.
-
Ed, just plotted it on the GPS...139.9 miles, pretty long ride.
-
I plan on taking off work at least Friday morning to have breakfast and cast a few flies. I will definitely be there Saturday morning. Is anyone interested in Kayak fishing? I will probably be fishing the NMZ behind Honeymoon Saturday if you care to join me. There are a couple of rental places I could check on if anyone is interested.

As of today I'm not sure if fishing at the FL Fish-In is going to make it on the calendar, but the drive just to the feast may be a tentative possibility! Still in the " Driving Ms Daisy " mode and paired with the hurricane repair brain teasers, " we can't get you a pool cage until next January.... you mean 2006? and we've already paid for it 6 months ago? And they want to know why pirates go AAArgh, AAArgh, AAArgh you kidding me???? Guess I better sign up for directions over the roads & thru Hillsborough......
-
Dave, if you can only make it one day, that's ok too. We will be fishing in the morning that day, and possibly after the feed as well. (probably depending on how much rum is consumed!) if you can't make it to fish, at least you will get a chance to meet this bunch of crazy pirates.

I was supposed to meet a few folks , who shall remain nameless, (you know who you are!) for fishing this morning, but they all wimped out because it was only going to be 45 Degrees. So I went for about an hour myself. Caught a nice one right in view of the Sailwinds hotel. [url=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v95/purebs/25trout1.jpg:60a9b]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v95/purebs/25trout1.jpg[/url:60a9b]
Not as big as your friends Ed, but it will do. (25") it too will be shared with all at the fish-in!
Bill
By the way, I need a name for my fly. Any suggestions?

Boy with this crew I guess you have to be a flexible pirate, Fly fish, drink pirate, juice, Kayak, cook and tye flies. I think I will fit right in.
Will Kayak, Drink and bring Pirate juice and will help/cook.
My kind of weekend
-
Bill
I know you are going to give us heck but you fished in a place we were not going and the red tide had a little to do with the decision. Yes I know we wimped out. And yes I know you had to push the icebergs out of the way. Is that the only fish that had brain damage? How cold was the water today?
I hear the fish kill is pretty bad just to the west of me. I hate that mess. Oh well the guys all went to the fishing college, well most did I am not sure what Stev did.
Harold
Bill; Flats Dude scared me about the cold water. I may never wade in the cold water again until Omar makes me a set of waders.
-
Ed,
One week from today. And yes, I am drooling with anticipation.

-
bill, i looked at the photo. what the hell kind of fly line is that? i've heard of braided leaders, but that is over the top! http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
and jed, i expect you to behave yourself down there--not like when we were on the cape!!
-
Uh, that would be a stringer dave! LOL I might just use it for tippet though if there are any sharks around!
Bill
-
Harold, You know I just had to give you guys a hard time! The water was chilly but not too bad. The fishing was great! The day warmed up nice too. I just got back from fishing again. My friend Robert caught 8 nice trout, I got skunked. my mojo just wasn't working today I guess.

The fish kill and red tide worried me. I can handle the cold water with waders and I have the clothing to withstand a repeat of the conditions that sent us looking for a windless, warm, dry, location with hot coffee in Dec. But I don't like challenging bronchial asthma with red tide.
Instead, we went fishing for vehicles. We inherited a 93 Grand Marquis that Gloria was driving. It has been falling into aging car status for several years. Yesterday we replaced it with a new Hyundai SUV for Gloria. She will be much happier driving now. While the Mercury was a well maintained and equipped car, neither of us ever felt like we belonged in it, cared for the way it handled, or its sheer size.

I have a 95 Marquis. I like it, but it is a little bit of a submarine.
I'm down in south florida, and wanted to make the fish-in, but too busy with recent drama. I would like to go to next years. I was born in Bradenton, so I'm not unfamiliar with the area.
-
LedWater, with all those canals down there, you might need a submarine.
Ours was more like an ocean liner, tended to badly oversteer, and it was hard to feel the road well. However, it filled a need when we had it and we were grateful for that.
-
Yeah Dave, sure. Just remember that sometimes expectations are not always met.
