Shellac as head cement

My wife and daughter get migranes from the smell of most solvents. so paint, fingernail polish and most comercial based head cements are out. Alcohol is one solventwhich doesnt set them off. Has anyone tried Shellac it is Alcohol based and Im thinking ought to dry relitivly quickly?

Im using Jackson Cardinal Water Based Head cement and don't like it it is to thin and I dont think it holds well enough or drys fast enough. any suggestionns?

Try Loon Products Water Based "Hard Head" cement. Builds up nicely with three coatings

Try the Fly-Rite water based head cement Fly-Tite.

Sorry Fly tite is alcohol based not water based

My wife has the same sensitivity. I use this cement and like it - she has never had any problem with it.

Go pick yourself up a pint of water based clear polyurethene. You will virtually have a lifetime supply of head cement that has no toxic fumes.

I mix mine generally 50 percent poly, 50 percent water but your mileage may vary.

I thought shellac wasn't water proof. Setting a cold drink on a shellac covered piece of furniture produces white rings in the finish if memory serves (and it often doesn't).

Seems like that would be bad for fly heads since they'd tend to cloud up.

I'll go along with David P's suggestion of FlyTite from the folks at FlyRite. I've been using it for quite awhile and like it.
If you're not a senior citizen Warren Albert's suggestion sounds great. If you're a senior a lot of the polyurethane will go to waste.

Name indicates where I fish and for what I fish.

I tried Shellac it works but takes a little to long to dry, It also doesnt hold as well as I would like.

I soaked floss in it and used it on a couple of flys, they held together after about three hours of soaking. but I would have preferd a stronger bond.

Now I'm going to try Rosin and Alcohol.
