A note from Ron (me) your system flunky.
Ron,
I appreciate all your hard work for FAOL and "thank you"....
Now if only I could get a fly rod in your hands and get you in the river......
THANK YOU
Ron ,
I was actually startled when I opened up the main page this morning and saw my mug staring at me. What a surprise! "The Gang of Twelve", you showed quite an imagination. Nice job.
HW
It is nice to put some faces with names and this was a nice surprise. I especially liked the faded images of James Castwell and Al Campbell.
Nice work on the board and good luck.
Bob
Ron, a big thank you for all you've done and are doing for FAOL. I appreciated hearing your story and really appreciate your efforts!
As far as I can tell everyone involved with FAOL are doing a super job. The home page collection was a nice touch. When I posted that photo I was afraid I was going to be the ugliest guy on the website, but I see it's going to be a close competition.
Thanks for everything you and the Lady have done to make this such a great place to visit.
You have a standing invitation to come and catch some.
Rick
Ron, that front page pic is a AMAZING work!! Thank you for all your effert and expert work, it is greatly appreciated.
Ron.... I for one dont consider you a "flunky" and please delete that term from your future articles! There are always people in the background that keep things running and most dont really appreciate or understand all of inner workings that must be dealt with to keep the ship not only working, but moving forward. Kudu's to you, and all the other folks for making and keeping FAOL one of the best and most user friendly sites dedicated to a sport we all love...........Ed
During my 27 years of military service, I always treasured administration clerks, who could cut through the red-tape, dot tie "i's" & cross the "t's" and get the paperwork through on the first try. I admired the supply personnel, that always got me, the parts and items I requested, with no delays or back-orders. I respected those who's leadership, inspired others who, other otherwise would have been discarded as not worthy of further training.
But I most of all those who step into the breach, when times get tough, and take on a "Mission Impossible", and keep a operation running!
Thank You, Ronn Tidd, you have a very difficult task to keep this site running, until Deanna returns to handle the daily operation of FAOL.
This site has grown over the past 12 years, and it is impossible for just one or two individuals, to keep a weekly magazine running. There are many members on this site, that have a lifetime of experience, and now have the time, to step up and help out, with whatever way they can to ease the load of work, of others.
I hereby am volunteering for duty!

Sites like this can be a full-time job to keep running, even with a dozen people as a staff. How you manage is beyond me. So many people dont realize the effort it takes.
Also...the picture in the article...HP z-series laptop? :D
First and foremost, thank you for all your kind words.
As to the flunky comment, it's kind of like being a geek for me.
It's a term delegated to someone that keeps things running behind the scenes and is rarely seen. I wear the title with pride. If I do my job right, you rarely hear from me. Being a 'flunky' is a career choice for me, although being the head flunky is admittedly more enjoyable ;)
As to Dee resuming normal ops, well she has. But at my insistence her role will be different. She needs to run the beast. You can't do that when you are stuck in a room making HTML pages. Her role is (as it should always have been) as owner steering the ship without worrying about the minute details, and as the person that goes out and insures FAOL has enough funds to keep the doors open so to speak.
To that end the changes underway will eventually allow others to participate in getting stuff published. It's all about using the technology to automate the mundane and free up resources, while allowing others to lend a hand.
Slow work unfortunately, as there are only odd nights, and one day a week I can dedicate to it. With the help I get, it will get done, one step at a time. Right now, I need to be immersed in it so I can determine the best way to automate things. Automating a process that doesn't work manually just means it goes to hell in a handbasket much more efficiently.

That's my laptop.
As evidence by the bread crumbs (ROFL)
HP/Compaq nx9420 with a bigger HD and more RAM installed.
Nice laptop, big screen, and full keyboard (with keypad). My only complaint? Vista brings up the load on the Centrino Duo enough to cause the fan to run too much. Annoying, when XP was nice and quiet.
I used to be a Dell fanatic, and have bought MANY Dells over the years in my positions as IT manager/Director.
HP used to be a name for cheap computers.
Not so any more. My next laptop will be HP. Dell.... Well all good things eventually loose their luster. I'm hoping they get back to their past glory again. Until then.. I'm pushing HP/Compaq. (until they loose their luster anyway)

Ahhh...that's interesting...looks almost exactly like my HP. I've had it since 2004, with only a RAM upgrade (from 512 MB to 2 GB...its max). Was going to upgrade the HD, but with a max of 2GB RAM its hardly worth it...a new laptop will probably replace it in the coming years.
If we (FAOL) are 12 this year do realize that next year we'll be <gulp> a Teenager!
:)
Time to work out a Mohawk pattern fly...
(How do you tattoo a fly?)
C'mon Betty, we're in 7th grade! (Did you get your algebra homework done?)
Ed
Nah...
We just need to design a fly with built in piercings, a tongue ring perhaps?
Oh and while your casting it has to go to places you don't approve of behind your back...
My casting does that already! (must be an early bloomer)
Piercings? like your fly having a fly thru it's lip?
How's this:

Sorry, couldn't resist the temptation.

Ron,
I can't think of a single recent change that I have not liked. You have done a great job, IMHO, to make the changes as seamless as can be and I look forward to the improvements you bring online in the future. The only thing I miss from the Castwell days (other than there will never be any new articles from him, of course) is the Lighter Side stories/jokes/etc. Whether the Lighter Side stories/jokes/etc. are related to fishing or not, it was nice to have the humor "break", so to speak.
Paul
Great point.
But it gets tedious to borrow jokes from joke a day or wherever.
I wonder if the FAOL members can submit a humorous story of fishing?
That'd be much better.
