Today, I have learned the secret. The most invaluable tip you'll need to become a successful angler. Yeah! And I'm going to share it with you free of charge!

If you see a fish within the vicinity of your fly, and you see it take, or you feel a tug, or you feel the line stretch...

Set the hook.

Tip set, strip set, whatever you choose, I don't care...

Just set the hook.

It is a lesson I still struggle with.

They were happy today! I would've doubled my tally had I heeded those three words...

I thought it was to go to the restroom before putting on your waders!

I know what you mean smij. After not fishing for a few months it takes a few missed strikes before you can coordinate between the old brain and your hand. Although I do know of some people who need other tips, like for their fly rods after sitting on them, but that is a tip of for another story.

But, while you may have increased your tally, the main thing was you were out there trying and you did hook into some. Way to go. :)

Make sure the hook you are setting is not dull. Took me three fish to figure that one out...
