Another beginner question: What does "Weight Forward line mean? Also, If I purchase a Five Weight 9' rod, should I also purchase a 5 Weight floating line? and buy? a five weight leader? Is 5 weight similar to 5 lb. test line?
Thank You,
Charlie.

See my response to your other post.
Weight forward lines and double tapeer lines are the same at their front ends. But a weight forward line then becomes quite thin all the way back to your reel while a double taper line looks the same on its back end as on its front end. Weight forward is good for casting long distances but you probably wont be casting long sistances as a beginner. so it is nice to have a DT that you can turn around on your reel and get twice as much life from.
Yes, match the weight of your line to the weight of your rod.
But, when it comes to leader and tippet, that is another matter and, though they still use numbers, they are on a different scale. Tell us the kind of fish you'll be pursuing and the size of the flies you'll be using and we can reco on leader and tippet size. I mostly fish smaller flies for trout so I use mostly 5X leader and tippet. YOur situation may be different.
I really reco you see if your library has some books for beginning fly fishers. YOu'll find a lot of this stuff in them in a way that is much better than you can get by posting questions, but post away and the folks here will try to help you.
charlie, pay a visit to flyfishing basics on the home page. have fun!
Charlie,
There are three fly shops in the San Diego area. If you go into one they will be very helpful.
They are:
Stroud Tackle on Morena Blvd just west of Mission Bay
San Diego Fly Shop in Solana Beach near the train station
Andy Montana's in Coronado a few blocks from the Hotel Del Coronado.
Also see www.sdfish.com for local information and bulletin boards including a flyfishing board with local information.
