What's kind of interesting is that you see LeRoy Hyatt spinning extra deer hair at the head. When I was starting out, I bought a video of Ed Shenk tying the Letort and some other patterns. He ties the wing and body more to the eye and then tied on a big hair wing and cut the head like an EHC but just much higher.

The vimeo is faithful to how Shenk originally tied it, right down to the use of double half-hitches.
