Fly Tying Software?
Is there any other software that would manage your fly tying material, like an inventory type of software?
I've found SuperFly. [url=http://www.erobillard.com/SuperFly/:f7142]http://www.erobillard.com/SuperFly/[/url:f7142]
Seems to be pretty cool but I'm wondering if there are any others out there.

Hi Luke
I just use an Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of my material. The most important part of any program you select is to keep it updated. Record new material before you use it or put it in your storage area. When you finish a tying session, record the material that was used. If you are interested in the details of my system, let me know. I already had Excel on my computer so, in effect, the fly tying software was free. 8T

I was thinking of using an Excel database but I was wondering if there was anything nicer out there.
What I like about the SuperFly software is that you can click on material that you have and it matches the flies that are tied with that material which is pretty neat.

Luke,
Superfly sounds like a very neat package but I have a pretty extensive fly tying library so I can usually find most patterns I need. I decided to go the spreadsheet route because I got tired of buying stuff that I already had or opening a package of hooks and finding only two left. Excel meets my needs but I can understand how you might find Superfly attractive. Good luck with which ever method you select. 8T

I took 8T's advise and spent a few days putting everything into an Excel spreadsheet. Love the fact that I actually know what I have in stock. Only bad thing is that my system crashed about a month ago and I have to rebuild everything (need to remember to make back-up disks)

I'm thinking of building a web version of something like this. I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested or actually use it if I spent the time and built it.

Hi Fly-chucker,
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've never had that kind of crash (knock on wood) but I do back up to a disk fairly frequently just in case.
Luke, I've used my system for two or three years now and I'm pretty comfortable with it. I would be unlikely to change but I'm sure there are a number of tyers who would appreciate your effort. 8T

I tried using the Robillard software and liked it but when I switched to Windows XP I found that it didn't run well for me. I believe that it is now unsupported.
Rather than an Excel spreadsheet, I think an inventory wouldwork better in Access which is a database program. I always have problems doing searches within Excell and the sorts can be a bit difficult. But then I'm not a programmer so my attempts have been rather crude.
I'd like to see a program for this as now I rely on my memory and ability to locate things. This makes for interesting duplication as it is the items I rarely use that I don't remember having or can't find so buy another. never happens to what I use frequently.

Barfly, the SuperFly software lukemccoy was talking about is an Access program.
I played with it a year or two ago and found it to need an old version of Access (2.0) to run and it was buggy. It is open source so you could modify it to suit your needs. It might be something you would like, if you have Access 2.0.

I can't even get it to install under Windows XP. It just locks up at the install screen.
I have Access, but 2003
