So long Joe Torre
It's been a great run for you and the Yankees. I tip my hat to you sir. I do not think any other manager could tolerate the attitudes from players and owner with the grace and sportsmanship that you showed. There will be other offers but this is the chance for you to slow things down, enjoy life, friends and family.
I wish you all the best.

Eric,
Joe Torre,
Is the ONE class act in this mess! The Yankee management doesn't deserve him!

Re: So long Joe Torre
Class act for sure.
I've been a Yankee fan for about 55 years and no manager has done the job that Mr. Torre did. Throughout his tenure he's had to contend with massive egos and personalities like no other manager. He was able to do that and everything else with dignity and calm leadership. This year it's amazing that the Yanks even made the play-offs. The pitching staff was decimated with injuries and they were just about dead and buried by mid-June.
Let's see how this story plays out because we haven't heard his side, if he even talks about it, yet.

Re: So long Joe Torre
Steinbrenner you fool, hire Billy again. He might be available.
how can anyone work for this jerk?

Re: So long Joe Torre
The Yankees management should have fired itself! and hired Joe Torre to run the Team. All the money in the world is useless with incompetent people in charge. They need someone to right the ship.
The Yankees management should be ashamed for insulting Joe by offering a pay cut, instead of just Firing him. What a bunch of losers.

Re: So long Joe Torre
I've been a Yankee fan my whole life and I am DELIGHTED!!
While I respect what Joe accomplished his lackadaisical style had run its course. It is time for a change.
I'm sorry but I am and will always be a fan of the firebrand style of manager. As I sit here typing this; I can look over my shoulder and look at a framed picture on the wall of Billy Martin; my hero! Even Bobby Cox has more fire than Joe.
Good luck Joe and thanks for the memories but it's all about the big dance and we've been sittin' out for too long!
Here's hopin' the job goes to Larry Bowa!

Re: So long Joe Torre
Bamboozle,
Why hasn't Larry Bowa's name came up for possible successor??
Is a Hot Head manager going to get anywhere with the Yankee players??
Should the Yankees cut Alex R. loose and start over??
Thanks,
Doug

Re: So long Joe Torre
I just heard a rumor that Bowa is headed to the Mariner's as the 3rd base coach. If it's true I'll be sadder than hearing about Joe. I like Bowa's fire.
I don't believe anything I read right now concerning Joe's successor. Bowa may or may not be in contention but I really think anybody knows for sure at this point. As far as whether a "hot head" manager will get anywhere with today's players. I personally think they ALL are bunch of babies who need their a$$ kicked once in awhile.
Bunch of dang sissies if they can't take the heat! They had it too easy for 12 years if you ask me.

Re: So long Joe Torre
Thanks! Bamboozle,
The Yankee's player that I admire is Derek Jeter. I wish there were more like him. Players want to be Movie Stars instead of just concentrating on the game.
