Hey, Jim Hatch
Jim,
The Walden Adirondack is discontinued and seemingly unavailable anywhere I've tried. So, what is the next best Make and Model to the Adirondack?
I have tried several of my buddys' kayaks and even owned, for a short time, a Hobie Sport. The problem; after an hour I'm done. Discomfort, back pain, and a developing fowl mood.....
They are convenient as opposed to hooking-up my 12' Jon boat, backing to a ramp, etc. but, they hurt!!!!
Suggestions?

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
Hey Jim,
I'm sorry for your pain.*G* But I can certainly relate to it.
Like I said, the Adirondak seat cured my problem. But that
doesn't guarantee it would fix yours. In all sincerety, I think
your going to have to experiment until you find one that works
"for you". I've paddled other boats that I found uncomfortable where other paddlers swore by their comfort,
and vice versa. There are also accessory seats and gel pads
available that can make a huge difference. Then there are
many seats with multiple adjustments that can help relieve
the pain, but it takes experimentation to find out what best
fits you.*G* In other words, in my opinion, there is a viable
solution to your comfort issues, but it may not come easy to
you. I can only wish you luck in your quest.*G* Warm
regards, Jim

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
Jim,
I bought a Wilderness Systems Pungo for the seat (Phase 3). I gave up a better kayak (the older model Pungo) just for the seat. You might want to look at those. They have adjustable everythings (back angle, back height, seat angle etc). I get wetter than with the older Pungo but its worth it for the seat.
My wife has the best of both worlds, the older design with the newer seat but I know she won't trade. I did one modification which was to put a piece of pipe insulation in front of the kayak to push away the water and this is only an issue in the salt.
Hope this helps.

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
Thanks for getting back Jim. I was looking for a starting point when I asked if you knew anything close to the Adirondack in design. And Jed, I'm definitely going to look at the Pungo, and the Pamlico, which I believe has a slightly larger cockpit.
There is a place called Bel Haven about 30 miles from me which sells new and used everything in kayaks. It's on Bel Haven Lake so trying is encouraged. I'll make the trip soon.

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
Jim,
If your looking for a kayak with pure seating comfort, and your not wanting to use in white water...You might do well to check out the Magic, Ultamate thread and read the review at the bottom of the first post....Really sounds like a great boat...and the seating sounds first class....
Again, Not exactly sure what the Walden Adirondack design was...But can't hurt to give a look..I know if I did not own a hobie outback...I'd be in the market for the Ultimate myself..as all the waters around here are quite tame...
Hope you find what your looking for..

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
Jed,,,,I saw the Pungo 100 at Dick's this weekend while looking for something else; no one around to help, so I didn't get a chance to pull it down and sit in it. However, that Phase 3 seating system looks real comfortable.
It wouldn't do any salt, white-water or big rivers. Strictly lakes, ponds and maybe a small river.

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
The 100's are a little short for the salt, but the 120's are a nice compromise for salt and fresh water. I use mine everywhere. I made a modification to the boat by putting a piece of pipe insulation just in front of the cockpit to stop water from coming in. It makes the newer Pungo's acceptable for Cape Cod bay. Not as good as their older design but good enough so that I am happy and my back doesn't hurt anymore.

Re: Hey, Jim Hatch
I have the Ultimate 12. Just bought it a few months ago and couldn't be happier.
My long standing back injury flared up a few weeks ago - and my Ultimate is more comfortable than any "chair" I have in the house. - Wonderful lumbar support, and you can pull it to vertical - wouldn't be able to fish/yak with any other boat right now...
Hope this helps - let me know if you need more info
