dumb mistake
On my new rod I must not have got the little cap at the end glued on all the way around.
I also did not run the ring all the way up the reel set rings.
I have some epoxy holding the ring to the end cap of the rod. What is the way to remove this?
I do have about 1/8" of space between the two pieces.
I know stupid, but I never have been able to claim I was the brightest bulb in the pack.

Rick;
It sounds to me like you became a victim of hydraulics. When you glue a butt cap into the butt end of a reel seat, on some blanks you are trying to displace air built up inside the rod blank. Once you take your finger pressure off the butt cap, it slowly works itself back off, thus air pushing back against the cap ( hydraulics ) and you end up with that 1/8" gap. If it is a metal reel seat, you can apply some heat to the reel seat butt to soften the glue, then scrape it off and reglue it. Next time, try taping the butt cap in place once you have glued it and cleaned the excess glue with rubbing alcohol. You should no longer have any gap.

regarding that 1/8" space - is there any thing you can wind/put there that would look neat, enhance the appearance of the rod? Maybe you have created an oppportunity.

Heat from a heat gun will soften the epoxy. Just take your time and give the heat time to penetrate the material.

Actually I try to super glue the end cap on before i ever put it on the rod.
Just did not get it all done.
