My copy is from 1952, I'll check to see if the fly your looking for is in my copy.
Thank you Ray. pm sent.

Bob,
If you didn't get the answers that you were looking for, I've got the sixth printing of the 1938 "Trout" by Bergman, the one that was done near the end of WW II, and inclusive of the disclaimer that "this book was produced in full compliance of all government regulations for the conservation of paper, metal and other essential materials." If you're still looking for the aforementioned info above... Jerry, aka hairwing530
Thank you Jerry. pm sent.
I think I still have it, but it is "home" in Montana, can't check until about the 20th of April.....
I only have the 1956 edition. How does that differ from the 1938 first edition?

My copy is from 1976. Happy to help if I can.
What is the fly you are looking for and what did you want to know about it? Maybe someone here knows the answer anyway.
The Red Trout Minnow Streamer. Trying to determine when and where it was first introduced? Also, who originated the fly?

From a Don Bastian website:

Red Trout Minnow Streamer
Tied by Don Bastian
This fly is the Red Trout Minnow pattern from Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing, by Joseph D. Bates. This fly is the image from The Complete Sportsman website, and was tied by me back in the spring of 1998.
Red Trout Minnow
Hook: Mustad 3665A Size #4
Thread: Black Danville 6/0 Flymaster
Body: Embossed silver tinsel
Wing: Blue goose shoulder married to red goose shoulder, with gray mallard folded over top
Cheek: Jungle cock
Head: Black
This was the first and last time I ever tied this pattern; a once-and-done fly. I have been thinking lately that I want to tie some more of the Red Trout Minnow?the problem is there are too many fly patterns to tie, let alone fish!
Good topic....the Red Minnow Streamer is in my '76 edition of Trout (pg. 144.) ; but not pictured in the plates.
I looked into Joe Fandel and didn't get much on the net. I'd like to know more if someone can give us a history lesson. Sounds like he was a very good fly tyer.
Honestly never heard of him.
