Marinaro Thorax fly articles of the 60s

JC, I really liked the 12 articles on thorax flies you did in the 60s. I am grateful for the hard work. I am now wondering, does the hackle even imitate anything on a normal dry? I thought perhaps a blur from a distressed dun because there are way to many barbules to imitate legs. And I am wondering if you have any pictures of compara duns from underwater? or if i can just take a glass and look at the flies from underneath at an angle, perhaps a plastic clear bin so i can look on an angle?

I have an old aqaurium , its about 25 buy 18 by 18 or so i think ... I am trying to spin deer hair around a wing post....so its like a parachute , but with the fibers all facing slightly down, like the x wraps Marinaro did, only in a circular form...might be better even.
