Ernie,
A warm welcome from Tennessee to FAOL! Take a chair and browse this great site and if any questions come up, don't be afraid to ask. By the way, new members must split the firewood for the evening fire and it won't hurt to make the coffee! : )
Another warm welcome from Tennessee. Hope to see a lot of you and maybe even help you along the way. Bring donuts too!!
Ernie
You got to watch those boys from Tennessee. On the other hand, us guys from Ohio will give you nothing but the best, unbiased advise and instruction. By the way, a big welcome to the best fly fishing site on the web.
Brad
Hi Ernie. Have you discovered the front page of FAOL yet? Click on home at the top of this page and look on the left for flyfishing 101. Everything you need to know to get started.
Welcome aboard Ernie. Los of great info on the main page. Don't be shy to ask questions here on the forum.
Big, warm welcome from Michigan!!! Ditto on all that has been said about FAOL!!!
P.S. Don't believe everything anyone from Ohio says either.
Welcome aboard from Georgia. As Warren said, you won't find a better bunch of folks to share your new passion with. Lots of knowledge and experience and always willing to share.
Take care and tight lines.
Jim Smith
A hardy welcome from South Dakota, land of no trout. (Just ask Betty.)
And we need to get this straightened out...Does the new guy bring DONUTS or BEER????
Ernie, Again welcome from Georgia. As you can probably tell there are some pretty nice folks around here, with just enough mischief to keep it interesting. There are enough of us who started off knowing very little we have already made all the mistakes you can and will, so don't be shy about asking basic questions. There are a lot of answers in he archives if you dig around a little bit.
Royce, When they are from Texas I thought they brought a good smoked brisket or biscuits with gravy.
Royce is right!! There are no trouts in South Dakota! And I "third" the suggestion about watching those guys from Ohio and Tenn!
Coffee and donuts are always available around our old pot bellied stove .... as are stories that will curl your hair, make you laugh, and sometimes add to your knowledge base! You'll love it here!
A hearty welcome from Kansas.
A third warm welcome from Tennessee! Glad to have you on board, if you have any questions there's ALOT of good guys on here with a wealth of knowledge!
A warm welcome from Colorado ! When I came on board, they made me chop firewood and bring the BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another welcome aboard from Tennessee. I agree that Texas need only bring the BBQ beef brisket to qualify as a full contributor to the feast. (That's real BBQ, not just something slapped on the grill....) I hope that you have enjoy fly angling.
Although, at this point someone really ought to tell you to flee from the whole thing on the grounds that it can become a severe addiction. That danger only multiplies if you take up fly tying. Run! Run and don't look back! Escape while you still can! Twelve step programs won't help you because you'll try to do all 12 steps in your waders.
Warm regards,
Ed
Ernie, A big FAOL welcome from SoCal. I see all the guys have informed you about the firewood, coffee, doughnuts and beer. If you get around Lockhart, TX I'll take a plate of about anything from Blacks, Krues or Chisholm Trail BBQ. PLEASE.
All kidding aside, this is a great site for anything and everything related to fly fishing, fly tying, rod building and a whole bunch of other stuff. Check the Index on the left side of the home page or just type something into search for all kinds of information. Don't be afraid to ask. Jim
Welcome from Illinois. If you need help tending the smoker, I can show you a thing or two, just don't ask for my brisket recipe.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I diffently have the fly fishing bug, wished I would have got into fly fishing sooner!
Ernie
I think the fly fish'n bug is wide spread, I'm eat up with it also, even tho I'm a green horn myself , welcome to the fray, the locals seem friendly so far.
Ernie;
As you can see the Folks from Tennessee are some of the first to welcome you aboard. I like my beer ice cold:mrgreen:
Welcome to FAOL! I will also verify the non-existence of trout in South Dakota and the fact the FAOL is a great resource for beginner flyfishers.
Jack we got all the cold beer you can drink! I come from a little Czech town called West. Don't know if you remember, it's the town where the fertilizer plant blew up last April. Forgot, we don"t have any trout either,at or around Christmas they will stock some in some of the park ponds!
Ernie
I know West. I stopped at a bakery there in October and had a couple kolaches for breakfast. Good coffee too. Don't remember the name. Not too far off the I-35. I was going to Austin from Azle. Jim
Very tardy condolences about the tragedy in your town.
Betty Hiner tells everyone that there are no trout(s) in the Black Hills of SD because she wants to keep them all for herself. We tend to go along with her, since she's a (Kansas)Swamp Witch. (A statement in the same veracity neighborhood as the one that there are no trout in SD.)
There are various Fish-Ins around the country. If you see one convenient to you and you are interested, try to attend. You get a chance to meet people face to face that otherwise you only know from on-line. For example, I am an incredibly handsome guy (see "veracity neighborhood") who placates Betty with various flavors of Cheez-Its (true).
When in doubt, remember we are all anglers. Yarns will be spun and tales will grow. ;)
Enjoy the show.
