Deer Hair Packer
It's been a long time since I tied up any Deer hair bugs, but I plan of tying some up in the next week or so. I figured that it was a good time to make myself a nice Deer Hair packer to make it easier on my hands. I made this from a piece of acrylic I had in the garage and a small hinge at the back to allow it to open up. I cut a small groove down the inside of the middle to accommodate the hook shaft. I made the "nose" smaller and tapered o that I can use it to make half hitches after each bunch of Deer hair. I turned it on my lathe to give a comfortable grip. I left the end square so that it doesn't roll away when I put it down. So far, it works like a charm. Easy to hold and grip, and I can put on lots of pressure to pack the hair nice and tight. I'll post some photos of the Deer Hair lures I make in the next week or so. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. https://gifyu.com/image/SInmb

You are talented Jim. Nice looking tool. Dennis

Thank you for the kind words Dennis. I enjoy making my own tools or additions to my bench and I wish I had made this many years ago. It is so much easier on the hands and fingers than the little brass one I was using.

Mike, You are too kind! Thank you for the compliments. They mean a lot to me. Are you still tying flies?Jim

Great job!!! I often use the empty barrel of a ballpoint pen, as nearly all my flies are small trout flies.
