There are a few in the DC area.
I am sure there are some that I don't know about but a couple of the better known ones are:
Angler's Lie in Arlington;
Orvis at Tyson's Corner
Both of these should be in the Northern Virginia telephone directory; or available on line.
There are others in the outer reaches of the Washington area that may be more convenient, depending on where your contact is located.
In case you're talking about Washington State instead of Washington D.C., let me know what city in Washington and I can probably help direct you.
aliferste,
can you be a little more specific as to the location in the dc area? 4 states all join in the general area (virginia, maryland, west virginia and pennsylvania) and depending on where you are, there are any number of shops other than the mega-malls that have good equiptment and advice on local waters as well as differing specis...
also if you plan on fishing, all of these states have differing regulations (of course)

As a point of reference i am looking for fishing shops near the White House I have been told http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif
George W is quite the fisherman.
Stop at his house and ask him.
I am sure he knows all the best
shops around.
And tell him I said hey!
