I use 3/0 waxed for hair bugs...works fine for me..some use Kevlar but I think it overkill.
I use either monocord or 10 pound Spiderwire braid to spin or stack deer hair for bass and panfish bugs.
For the odd trout pattern, muddlers, irresistables, stuff like that, it's not as critical and I use whatever's in the bobbin.
Good Luck!

3/0 - Gudebrod but I don't do many spun deerhair flies any more.
I also use 3/0 for foam. I feel it cuts less than smaller sizes.
Use 6/0 for small(14 and 12) dries and 3/0 or 140 denier UTC for larger ones although I hardly tie any.

Lately I've been using kevlar for the spun hair stuff, ' cause I keep breakin other stuff. Not sure yet how I like it overall, it's pretty heavy. Otherwise I use Danville or Uni.....
I use 6/0 or 3/0 Uni. Sometimes I use Kevlar, but I find I cut hairs using this if I apply to much tension.
3/0 uni...waxed is good. I've been tld by alot of folks that Kevlar can cut too easily and I cut hair with 3/0 sometimes, so I haven't even tried it.....seriously..UNI-products...;-)
