am fishing
Got out for the first time in a month on a Saturday morning.
Had a blast on gills. Brought home 55 and returned 4 that were near 12"
long. Lost several as I tried to swing them into the canoe and had allot of
long line releases.
The problem was the darn fly I was using fell apart after about 78 fish
were caught on it.

Rick,
You really need to work on the durability of your flies.
Too funny.

Pray tell, what was the pattern?

Wow! 55 brought home. And your fly only lasted 78 fish. Man you need to work on your tying! Thats alot of fish to catch and keep. I wish the mud holes I fish were stocked that well.

a marabou leech.
size 10 hook with a small black bead head.
Tie on black marabou for tail about 3/4 shank length. Twist marabou into a rope and then spiral thread around it to reinforce it.
Wrap the rope up the shank and tie off.
A quick easy fly to tie.
I am blessed to have an abundance of very fertile ponds.

I'd get a lot of resistance from the wife if I gave her 55 bluegills to clean!! *G*

Rick Z, thanks for the pattern. Will tie up a few for my bro who fishes ponds in Oklahoma for BG. Will visit him next month and try to wear out a fly, some BGs and me.
