Fish at my feet
Went out for a couple of hours yesterday, to a couple of locations on the Charles river. One place had a strong current in front of me, and a nice eddy where I could wade just over knee deep and cast into and over the current.
I noticed a nice trout slowly working upstream, practically at my feet. What is a good tactic to try to catch this fish? I was using a bead head nymph, tried to drop it upstream, and let it drift naturally towards the fish, with no luck. It finally ended up just upstream of me in a thick brush pile.
Anything else to try should I go back?

Kirk...
It is so exciting to see a big fish with catching distance... yet they dont bit any thing...
But I bet if you was to try a scud he may hit it...
If you (or anyone) decides to go to Branson Missouri this summer.. you will see this... but not just one fish.. you'll see 5 or 10 "AT" your feet (im talking about right on the tip of your toes)...
what they are doing is eat all the little nypmhs, scuds and sowbugs that are dislodge when people are walking (wading) though the water...
Although.. you will see people standing in one place "shuffling" their feet across the rocks... Know as the San Juan Shuffle
So the fish that was at your feet was more then likely eatting something (scuds or sowbugs) coming out from under the rock which you were standing on...

Kirk,
I've had that problem and have never been successful at cathcing fish at my feet. If you find out the answer let me know.

I agree with JC. At Rocky Ford Fish are almost always at your feet. I never caught any of them, but I have hooked up on them and they have swirled at my fly.
