is anybody using lead free 0.015 diam. for weighting nymphs? I started using it and find it less dense and more brittle than real lead. Awful stuff!

Huh, I've used it for years and never had that problem. Maybe strip 6" or so off and see if it gets better.

It is definitely not as dense and heavy as lead. I think I read somewhere it's about 70% of the density of lead. I agree that I wish it were softer so that the ends were easier to flatten on the hook like lead. After using it for a while you do get used to it and it isn't that bad.
There is no much of a good substitute for lead. At least we're doing our share to help save the environment.
Isn't there tungsten thread? Seems like that should work well for weighting.
Been using zinc fuse wire, aka "lead free lead" for quite a few years. Works fine. If you do not like to use lead, best alternative. Your choice, where allowed. Personally with all the other ways of getting a fly deep, do not miss lead one bit.
