Dying hackle / fur
While at the market today taking a break from tying I passed by the colouring and dyes... There was 1 lone box of food colouring what said in big letters on the front ( NEON)... Made by McCormick... Couldnt quit thinkin bout that the whole time we was in there and even picked it up 4 different times to read the box & look at it... Anyhow at the checkerouter I just couldnt help myself, had to have it so I ran back there & grabbed it up... Got it home & went to dying some rabit fur & other furs, also some different kinds of loose feathers... So far I like the way they turned out cause they look like they would glow in the dark almost... The dyed materials are still drying but ill post some pictures when the drying is complete...

Looking forward to the pics; hope it works like you want. I've had varying success with Kool Aide dyeing; don't get the vibrant colors but some interesting effects. For the real bright stuff I leave that up to the pro's; I have no desire to get into the nasty acid dyes.
Regards,
Scott

Food coloring is actually a good medium for small amounts of feathers. It is also great for rabbit but most other hairs will do better with a Rit or Veniard Dye :)

I use rit for hair & coarse furs and mccormick food colouring for smaller materials...

They look good Bugman. I especially like how the feathers turned out!
