This is going to be fun
I blew about $600 bucks on a pair of 400 watt umbrella strobes from Alien Bees.
The following is exposure #1. Right off the camera, with minimal color balancing using Gimp on my Linux box.
Photoshop on a Mac usually does a better job.
So it's bound to get better from here.
That's a #24 DaiRiki 125 hook, so this is a small fly.
I've been shooting pretty good macro fly photos for years using incandescent light and a light tent.
The strobe lights look like they're going to whup incandescent big time.

Nice lighting!
The ABs strobes are a nice way to get into studio lighting without the high cost. My brother recently bought 3 of the B800 series and has been pleased with the results. Certainly a lot cheaper than his first pick, Elinchrom strobes.
