Almost every recipe I see that calls for cementing the head specifies Sally. Is there a reason other than the convenience of the drug store when you can't get to the fly shop for regular head cement?

Cheap, easy to find (same goes for the thinner), nice handy bottle with brush, does exactly what I want a head cement to do.

Scott
Ditto what Scott said. I'll add dries hard and clear.

When I use that stuff, I take the brush out first thing and cut at least half of the bristles off first thing as it makes it easier to manage.
Guess that answers my question. I've had a bottle sitting on my table for several years, but always wondered if I was just "cheaping out" again.
This is Mr. Cheap checking in:
Do we all recall that head cement thinners are simply lacquer thinner that costs about $6 a quart in a hardware store?
Also the thinner for rubberlike cements like Softex and Dave's Flexement is plain toluene, also at about $6 or $7 a quart.
I paid $.99 for a pint bottle of acetone (thinner), which translates into $2.00/quart, and $1.50 for a bottle of SHHAN. The thinner has a squirt top which makes it very easy to add to the Sally (so much fun pouring stuff like naptha/toluene from a can).
BTW, Softex and Flexament are some of the bigger rip-offs in flytying, of which there are many. Buy a small tube of vinyl cement or Goop, put some in a bottle, add an equal part naptha/toluene and you've got the same thing, for a whole lot less (do all of this in a well ventilated area!).

Scott
If you are going to use Goop...and I do...you might as well use Marine Goop....it may not make any difference but why not?
I use 2 rotating bottles of SHHAN. The older bottle has the brush in the cap. It is my streamer bottle. My new bottles I remove the brush from the lid and use a bodkin. When it gets too low for reach with my bodkin it is usually beginning to thicken also. So I transfer the remainder into the streamer bottle and replace my general use bottle. The swap takes place about once a year. I've had the streamer bottle and brush for about 6 yrs now.
