Valentine fly reels?
Dear Board,
Do any of you have any experience with these reels?
I've never even seen one, yet suddenly I have the urge to purchase an anti-reverse reel to use with my 8, 9, and 10 weight rods.
I'm looking at used model 350 and 400 reels, can you tell me anything? Good, bad, or indifferent opinions are all welcome.
Regards,
Tim Murphy

Great reels - They are admitedly, rather old school in design, but they are bulletproof, have a GREAT drag, and with proper care will outlast the angler! The only complaint I have with the older models is the diminutive tri-lobal drag control knob. It is easily and inexpensively replaced with the new superior designed delrin knob. I fish the old single actions in the salt - same drag, and it whips the stripers good! Tight lines, Alec

Tim, i think they are great reels. If you can get a good deal used, go for it.

Never had a Valentine but for a little more money you can have a Billy Pate Bonefish or Salmon model.Valentines are not even in the same league as a Pate.

Tim, the Valentines are my primary reels. I've owned them for over 15 years. Larry Valentine's bunch are great people also. Great customer service...
