Thanks, I'll hop right on it.
Ok, I'm in but I don't have a hopper pattern. Another new "experiment" in fly tying. Suggestions for good patterns welcome!
Thanks for the heads up. I was just thinking today, of trying my hand at hopper patterns. I'll get some amterial and try a few. If I can make them good enough to give out, I'll opt in. (If there's still room) If I can't, I'll let this swap pass.
Let you know in a couple of days.
Here ya go... http://hopperfishing.wordpress.com/
Also a remiinder this isn't a one off fly swap, but a monthly commitment. :)
My favorite top water pattern. :)
We got some nasty green hoppers over here, I will try to ty an acceptable pattern!
I will do a furl tailed hopper.
Rick
Sorry I didn't get with you earlier. I've been out of town.
They way this works is that you commit to join for the year (or in this case, until Jan 2013). Each month, the Host for that month will decide on a theme, and we all tie that type of fly, one for each member. Them we mail them, with toe tags and a postage-paid return envelope, to the host of that month. When the host receives them, he/she will sort them into packages of one each of the patterns and mail them back. We all get a package of 12 different flies each month.
If the host decides on flies smaller than a sz. 20, then that's what we tie for that month. We tie whatever theme the host decides, but it will make you a better tier. Even I got caught a few months ago. Someone found out my only weakness....I am horrible on wet wings. My finished flies for that month were awful, and embarrassing, but I muddled through, anyway. That's the way we do it.
If you can commit to each month between now and Jan, we'd love to have you in the swap. This months theme is Grasshoppers (I don't know if he is including crickets in this definition, or not...). Don't worry about how good you can tie. This isn't a contest. Just let us know if you want in.
Thank you, gigmaster. Now I know what the "monthly commitment" means. I cannot join, thanks ... I travel too much for my job. There are months when I will only be home for one weekend. Usually I am home for a week, then out again. Not enough time to make a commitment to learning and tying a new fly each month.
I appreciate the response and information.
Put me down for a Chernobyl Hopper
Flies are done and will be in the mail Monday.

Now I can go and try to harvest some Moose hair.
After checking out "Hopper" patterns,I'll do a version of an "Orange Hopper".
Bill
Just a gentle reminder. I know we are laid-back, and accommodating, and that's a good thing...within reason. But we are going into the middle of September, and RickZ is still waiting for 4 sets of flies for the August swap. That's putting a big burden on the swapmeisters when they are that far behind.
I know things happen, but I think we can all do a little better on getting the flies in a bit closer to the end of the month, myself included. I am going to try, anyway. I am sure the swapmeisters will appreciate it if we all try to get them in at least within a week of the deadline.
How about it, everyone? Think we can do it?
I'll go for it, being the worst one considering due date!
Sjo
OK, finally found a pattern but, I have to wait for some tools and materials. Hopper based on the River Road Supreme Hopper cutters. I am now at the mercy of the fly shop supply chain.
Mine are on the way.

flies went in the mail today.
Rick
My apolgies. Tools and materials have not arrived at the fly shop. I'll tie up some Estaz spiders and get them in the mail. I will send every one a hopper (along with what ever next month's fly is) next month. I don't want to hold up the swap. These are big #6 spiders and are definately "fishin'" flies. The guy who showed me the pattern claimed they were for smallies...
Bill
Finally got the flies done, will go out in todays mail.
Sorry about the delay fingers would not cooperate, the legs on these look more like a long very thin "Beard"
Bill
Who is up for October, Gigmaster? (My "not hoppers" are done and will be in the mail today. So much for the fly tying supply chain. Four days, as quoted by the shop has now been seven and no call. My apologies to everyone, again.)
Other Bill
Mine are finally done too. My promise did not hold long, I'm very sorry. I was a week away on a fishing trip in Denmark. We own a fishing boat (a Lund offcourse, a Fury). We towed that 500 miles and fished for seatrout, flatfish and Wyting. We three were very succesfull and caught 30 seatrout, 106 flatfish and 208 Wyting.
My hopper pattern was tied on a # 10 4X long hook, the body is green died hare's ear, ribbed with a grizzly hackle and counterribbed with a fluorgreen thread. The head is peacockherl and the legs are green bodyglass with an overhead knot.
I hope you like them,
Greets,
Sjo.
SJO's flys on the way and I haven't heard from Texfly. Is he still active in the swap?

He asked for my address for the August swap, but I have not heard any more from him. Sent two PM to him.
Rick
I have sent him a PM also. If we have not heard from him by the time SJO's fly arrived should we consider him MIA? I'm thinking on shipping out the flys 1 day after SJO's arrive.
Should I send out the August flies?
Rick
Keep an eye out some mighty fine hoppers headed your way. In the mail today!
Goty some very nice looking flies in the mail.
Rick
I got them, very nice hoppers indeed! Thanks for hosting!
Sorry for the late reply.
Just got back from the annual deer hunt and found a box full of very nice hoppers in the mail.
Look great, now I have to wait for the water to get soft again to try them out.
Got my flies. My hopper box is really stuffed now!!
Got some killer hoppers yesterday. Great job, everyone.
