sand bass report
I don't know why I never though of it before but its getting close to sand bass run time so if you would, please update this thread with times and catches (place need only be broadly general, not trying to get anyone to give up the honey hole) and we'll get a better idea of how the season is developing.
thank you

I sure do need to go fishing. Life has conspired, a conspiracy I say! to prevent me having fun. These new babies are tapping the resources, I have been pretty much a vicarious angler for some good while now.
But your kind invitations are not forgotten and I do intend to make up that way as soon as its good for me and everyone else involved.
thank you and tight lines!

Hey Robin,
I've not gone out for white bass yet -- not with fly tackle, that is -- but I intend to try it this year. Kansas has a couple of lakes with reputations for good white bass fishing.
Could you shed some light on what kind of flies whites go for? I'm guessing minnow imitators are the most effective overall, but have you ever enjoyed success using insect imitators?

As far as I know, the spawning sandies are looking for minnows. I have never heard of using insect patterns but then again, there is a lot that I have not heard of ")

Thanks, Robin, I'll see what I can do. I have a few minnow imitators to use.

Here in Arkansas the fish are starting to pick up in eddies on the river where the current(if found is breaking). They were catching a lot of them SUnday evening but to crowded for me and the flyrod had to jig fish.
I have had really good luck past couple of years on yellow and black clauser minnows with red eyes. My boy will not use anything now that doesnt have red eyes. He is always asking for a red eye jig or fly when we go white bass fishing.

Joe, try Rick's Cypert's Minnow down that way, and if you have any luck I'll use them up here at ice out. I've been tying them with a red hackle just behind the weight before stringing up the white chennile. Sort of a red gill effect, or affect, or whatever that word is that causes me to fail the NY Times employment test every time. JGW
