Leg color
When tying either wets or dries using rubber[silicone] legs do you think the color makes any difference?
e.g. yellow legs on a yellow stone fly nymph
maybe most insect legs in the water are perceived as dark?
Would white be more attracting?
Does segmentation help? e.i. the dark spots on many we see on legs that are sold...

There was a very popular Montana pattern called a red belly girdle bug. 3XL hook, black chenille body with a flame chenille strip along the bottom. White palmered hackle throughout. White rubber legs for the tail and 2 pair for legs. It sounds like a Pteronarcys stone nymph. But they fished them in the fall alot too, even more than spring.
I like something that matches the fly it's on. Probably more for me than the fish. I think the barred color stuff looks buggier.
Sorry if you are looking for fish catchin results data with the different colors of rubber. I don't fish em enough to help you out.

I can't say I have any fish catching data to say one color rubber legs are any better than another. I think it is more what looks good to you on the pattern you are tying ( yellow, red or brown on that hopper?). I think what matters is there is a surface pattern on the water that shows extended legs on the fly and the fact rubber legs can move slightly in the current. However, I am interested to see if someone has had proven experience with the color of rubber legs.

Most rubber leg flies are tied so the rubber matches the flies over all color. Dosen't matter if the leg's are barred or not. Not saying they all are just most of them. Remember when tying flies for sale you have to catch the angler first then the fish. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/wink.gif Also rmemember the first colors of ruber to come out many years ago were Black and White and that was it. We use to dye white rubber some but not many other people did. I remember I use to make a lot of Jiggs for Bass fishermen way back when. I used a foot medicane for doing this. It was purple and if you got it on your hands they stayed purple until it wore off. I looked funny a time or two. But it helped pay the bills. Ron
