It's a bit late in the season for this question, but I was wondering for those of you who pack away your gear during the winter, how do you store your flyline? I just leave my on the spool in a cool dry place. I have a friend who removes it from the spool and coils it on an old bicycle rim and stores it in his gun safe.

I don't have any of those around, but at the end of the season, I take mine off the reel, wash and condition them, put them in large loops and store them flat somewhere out of the light
How large do you think the loops should be when you store the line?

I clean them and wrap them around 2 pound plastic coffee cans. Store them in a cool dry area.

I store my fly lines in the trash and replace them every spring.

Just wondering why you need to replace so often?
Ray, the $400 silk lines too? LOL. He's putting us on me thinks! He is rich though....
Tyrone, A fly line is designed to last 200 hours of fishing, I fish far more then that. I find it a small expense considering the amount of time I enjoy fishing.

3) Go fishing
Keep them on the reel, hoping to get out winter midge fishing for trout at least- this year it didn't work out too well; weather-wise....and I am bummed because of it.
