Secret Pirate Meeting
Florida Pirates are called to the Tampa Bay on the weekend of November 12, 2005.
This will be a secret meeting of the Florida Fish-in 2006 planning board. Please plan on being at this meeting. Bring necessary meeting tools. Topics of discussion are secret so I will not mention them. Come for as long as you like, I will be there on Saturday not sure about Sunday, but maybe.
This will be an all day affair, maybe we can find a place around there to cook hotdogs and burgers. Hey Stev it is your fishing hole, do you know where we can cook some grub? For those who fished it last November, same fishing hole. For the new pirates that are coming let me know and I will send you a map. This is kind of a central point, and the planning (fishing) is usually good in November.
NOW... Flats Dude will be in charge of making sure that only pirates attend. He will be checking ID's and making sure you are from Florida. Anyone sneaking from another state will be dealt with by The Dude..... He has been known to be bribed so if you are in the area, the risk of being keel hauled might be worth the trip. This is not I repeat not the Florida Fish-in. This is a planning meeting. It is our second annual planning meeting. For those lucky enough to have been here last year I do not need to explain. The rest of you read the Dude's article from last November.
As this gets closer we might decide to meet for breakfast, Stev's choice of resturant.
That will be decided by the usual way.
Any questions contact one of us that was there last year. Again read the Dude's November article, or just contact me.
So far we know that the following will be there.
Harold
Purebs
FL_SKIBUM
Stev aka Captain Yid
Saltydancindave
Flats Dude
Floridaflyer
Let me know so you can be added to the planning board list.

Is this an indication that Kansas City isn't going to be on the list?

12 November should be alright.
There are some picnic tables at the rest area (north) as well as the, hopefully un-necessary) coffee machine. I can't recall if there are any fire grates there or not but I've got a couple MSR stoves that boil water in about the same time it takes to jump start a b-52 engine. I've also got a two burner Coleman that works well for less urgent situations.
I suspect that the fishing should be acceptable there in November if we don't get a serious storm through here before then.
Looking forward to another gathering and I'll recommend a restaurant that is open on our schedule this time.

SHH! I thought this was secret!
I'll be there!

KC is not on the list as a place to fish, but your name is on the list to be at the meeting. Flats knows better than to refuse you entrance. Heck we all know better.

If there's the time ( since life is day to day & planning anything that far in advance is questionable ) & someone reminds me a week ahead of time with the directions & itinerary; I'll be there !
-
Dave:
I have put a reminder on my calendar to shoot you an e-mail 10 days before. WE will be meeting on the north side of the Skyway. There is a rest area on and we will meet there. We may meet for breakfast before but I'll keep you posted.
Looks like we missed another big one, did you have any wind damage? All we had was a little wind, and very little rain.
I am worried about those people in New Orleans. This is not looking good at all.
Harold

HH, if at all possible, I'll be there. But hotdawgs??? And Stev does have a knack for finding breakfast spots! (HA)
-
Secret??? Ha! It's really not much of a secret that none of us have caught as many fish as we have fish stories to tell. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/wink.gif
Yet I do like a good fish story. Count me in.

The menu has yet to be determined.
Glad you and Ed will be there.
Maybe we can see another drag race.

Don't want hotdogs? Well, sometimes even Hebrew National can be a bit more than our aging GI tracts can handle.
OK, Gary. How about we plan on lox tacos?

Stev...now ya talkin'! *G*

It's on the calendar ... see y'all there!
-
Stev and Flats;
Which one of you two are going to catch the fish to make the lox? Now I make a killer spread with lox. So come on ship me 20 or 30 lbs and I will get to making.
It is a old family secret that I stole from Parnelli.
Harold
When do you leave for the cold country to catch the soon to be lox?
-
Thanks for putting me on the " to remind " list Harold. We had some strong winds & about 5 inches of rain; one less than was needed to refill the pool from some draining due to the forecast of 10" to 20" that was to be expected last Friday. North side of the Skyway is only an hour away, so that's easy. Breakfast sounds good, lox tacos doesn't sound too palletable. Now lox & scrambled eggs or lox, bagels & cream cheese with onion, tomato, cukes & lettuce would be fine for me. Maybe I'd go as far as juevos lox rancheros or lox burritos for breakfast; unless y'all pick a better restauranter! Might have to consult the Blue Charts for boat ramps if the waters too cold! Just ain't used to those temps when the harbor & gulf waters around here is warmer than the pool !
-
Harold, there's normally some lox in my reefer. Cooks up really nice with scrambled eggs and sauteed onions.
Load that onto a taco shell and its gonna stay with you most of the morning. Add some hashbrowns and coffee to the mix and the sun begins to shine.

Stev;
I figured that the way we all eat it would take between 30 and 50 lbs for breakfast and at least that much for snacks.
<grin>
I have never had it with eggs, might have to try that.
Harold
-
Stev is 120% correct, IMHO. A lox omlet with a bit of onion on an English Muffin is one of my favorites. You can substitue Taco shells, tortillas, Bagels and probably Fry Bread, but whatever you do, don't forget the lox.
Q: Why aren't there alot of jews in jail?
A: They eat locks (lox) LOL

Jed;
Hope you will wonder down and help with the planning stage, Flats will let you in, he thinks you live in Florida anyway.
But if you are coming we will need to know ahead of time. I am not sure the rum will hold out with you there. Here is a picture of last years rum portion. Remember I do not drink. Also as you look at this remember it was full to start with. <<grin>>

Hope to see you there.

Harold, the lox and egg dish I had in mind is called a LEO (lox, eggs, onions).
I usually use one package of nova lox cut into small pieces. For the two of us, I saute a med yellow onion, diced, in butter. When the onion is done to my liking I add 6 beaten eggs. At this point I may also add one or more herbs - parsley, chive, tarragon, oregano. When the eggs are set to my liking, I fold in the lox and turn off the heat. The lox will harden just a bit, add a lot of salt to the dish, and provide some nice orange color to the eggs.
Depending on the day of the week, I'll accompany this with bagels and cream cheese, butter, strawberry jam, or challah if it is Shabbat and I've made or bought challah.
Now I'm hungry. Time to head for the kitchen. Crab cakes and salad for dinner.

This restauranteur has a very good menu ! If there's a good deli nearby, maybe some smoked whitefish? When's the Skyway Bed, Breakfast & Rum Bar going to open, or is it a floating catering service for flyfishing only that day ?
-
Harold,
I can't make it as I am coming down in Sept. but I will look to making a one day flash visit during the actual fish in.
Love you rum flask, I assume it had to make several trips for the fish in.

Jed;
No one was enough but the Dude left early.
and JME did not drink very much. Purebs was cooking so we had a little drop or two left over which ole Stev put away in 2 little sips.
Much fun was had during the fish-in I hope we can out do it this year with more fish.
Glad you will be here then.. You coming down in Sept to see mom?
Harold
-
Yes, I am. And hopefully this Sept will not involve another Hurricane like last year's September visit.

Harold or Steve: just a few questions on the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve. Are there any boating or fishing restrictions within the area, & if so; where to get the specific info? Thanks.
-
HH says - "JME did not drink very much."
and there is my reputation in tatters, I promise to do better next time ;o)

Dave, this site seems to offer about as much information as I can find. I don't see any use restrictions.
