Reel cases ?
Who sells decent “old school” fly reel cases these days? It wasn’t too long ago when LL Bean was selling waxed canvas reel cases. These were very nice and reasonably priced, but don’t appear to be in their current catalog.. I’m looking for something along these lines.

Might try ebay; I've bought a lot of reel cases there.

You might try ORVIS for your canvas covers. However, if you are going to spend money on a reel case, I would strongly consider the neoprene cases because of the protective attributes they provide. I love how I can also use the neoprene cases while the reel is mounted on the rod as well as when the reel is packed away for traveling. That type is available from just about any fly shop....Orvis, Feathercraft, The Fly Shop, Cabelas and can be purchased for usually $10 or less. The other alternative is to make a canvas pouch type yourself or post a wanted ad on the bulletin board here. Good luck in your search.

Thanks, but neoprene is definitely not what I have in mind. The Orvis cases seem to be neoprene-based as well.

Thanks Prairieschooner. I actually had been looking at that one, but it’s a big saltwater-sized case, and the seller doesn’t have it in a smaller size.

I've been buying the blue and black neoprene cases off of EBAY for $4 each for years now.

So have I Ralph. Both the cases and the pouches that cover the reel when on the rod. I like them, and the price can't be beat.

Yes, but neoprene = “new school”. I’ve reached curmudgeon status, and am non-accepting of the progression to synthetic materials. Even the Orvis catalog makes me barf theses days!
