Same here, Betty... Them boys at Hook & Hack, as I call 'em, are tops. I been out of the game awhile too.... Real glad to hear Eric is still there. I never shopped around any more after I found them guys...
So..... Whatcha gonna build, Betty ? ....I been sittin' on a 9', 4wt, 4pc graphite blank I got from H&H 4 years ago. It's gonna live in a tube in my truck so's I can stop and throw some bugs whenever I have a few minutes. I bought a nice Okuma reel from a fellow FAOL member for it about the same time. I'll be starting on that rod in a few weeks.
I'm thankful for FAOL for all the knowledge and wisdom I've picked up from the members here and for the friendships I been fortunate enough to develop with my FAOL friends.
Thanks FAOL for running one of the best fly fishing sites out there and for making sure that people behave themselves by holding everyone accountable for following the rules.
James,
None of us say that enough! I am thankful to FAOL. Lots of great info is posted. It is a great way to get ideas and learn from others.
THANKS FAOL!!!
...I wish to heartily agree with Betty, James, & Byron. Finest group of folks I've ever encountered, FAOL. through this site I've learned, grown, discovered suppliers, and made good friends. Topped just recently by returning after a few years absence to warm familiar greetings from many fine folks... THANK YOU ! To all you folks, members and administrators, all of y'all !! Happy fishin' to all, and may your waders be higher than the water & your knots hold through the fight !
You can surely add my "atta boys" to the pile too. Betty, you ARE one of the diamonds around here. Modocdan, are you hear Hornbrook?...and welcome.
....lee s.
THAT outta keep them apples aimed elsewhere! ;-)
Yes, Lee, I'm in Lookout, CA it's mostly east of Hornbrook. 90 miles south of Klamath Falls, OR. Hornbrook is about a 2 hr. drive from me. Lookout is a tiny little town of about 75 souls. My hometown, my family goes back 6 or so generations there. I moved away for a few years, but now I'm retired, I wanna be back home. Great steelhead fishin in the Klamath river over by Hornbrook. And, thanks for the welcome back, Lee... Happy fishin'
I agree the guys at H&H are great. Last year I found a credit slip at the bottom of some old tying material. It was from 1983 for 91 cents. As a joke I mailed it to them and asked them to credit my account adding that I spent half of my credit on US postage. Would you believe they credited my account 91 cents.
We are very glad that our readers have found our "sponsors" to offer good products, however it is important that our readers understand that we don't have any paying sponsors at FAOL. Starting in 2009, one by one those advertisers began to stop paying for their sponsor page. We continue to carry those links on the sponsor page, since we chose quality sponsors to offer their products on FAOL and we think that it is valuable for our readers to have a ready access to these businesses. The cost of maintaining FAOL as an online presence is paid for from personal funds by the publisher and editor.
What would it take to organize a raffle to help fund FAOL? I know that I would be happy to donate an item or two. I make custom pens which people seem to like, or perhaps a dubbing twister or some other item. I believe that there are several people here on FAOL that would be happy to participate as donors and/or bidders on items. Your thoughts...

This is great that members have offered to help fund the site. However, I don't see where the Administrator has asked for help with funding. There may be issues with which they are not prepared to deal. I recommend we have a request for funding before this goes any further.
I’m sorry. When I made this post I certainly didn’t expect it to deteriorate into a donations for FAOL post. That was the furthest thing from my mind! All I had wanted to do was thank FAOL, JC and LadyFisher, and Neil in the more recent years, for giving me the opportunity to develop as a fly fisher. To learn about, and from, people I had no idea even existed.
It wasn’t about sponsors who are no longer sponsor. It was about friends. It was about people. Just an unadulterated thank you to people who have changed not only my life, but so many others world wide.
Thanks for the offer of support but please do not attempt to raise funds for FAOL. That was not the intent of my response to this post but merely to inform our readers about how FAOL continues to exist.
Got it and thanks for the quick response. I was not trying to stir anything up but rather just offering to help in any way I can. If things ever change, let us know. There are many loyal people here on FAOL who really appreciate everything you do to make this terrific website available to us.

I'm also expressing my thanks for the site and the writing that is regularly contributed. Thank you, Ladyfisher. Best wishes!
My deepest thanks to Ladyfisher and to all the FAOL writers, admins, editors and forum contributors!
I learned much of my fly fishing knowledge here, and that is one of my greatest treasures.
Thanks for many years of this wonderful fly fishing community. I feel like I know many of you, though I've only met you here.
Welcome back Betty, good to know your building rods again. Yes, thanks to FAOL!
Tim
Add me to the list of the thankful. I learned a lot from FAOL. I found this place back in 2002 when I took up fly tying. The help I received from the writers and members I'll never forget. They helped me realize a desire I had from my childhood when I spent hours at the fly tying area at the Sports and Boat show in the 60s and 70s while my dad worked at his company's booth showing marine radios.
I will always be grateful for my learning experience at FAOL.
