Curious if anybody has any experience (positive or negative) with Wild Water Fly Fishing (not a sponsor so I'll leave the url out). I saw an add for them in American Angler and they seem to have interesting products at a price that is reasonable so I'm curious to know if anybody has one of their rods.

Their rods are becoming known for breakage...some of the WNY guys can chime in with specifics.
I have a four piece, four weight that I bought used a couple of years back. I have used the rod quite a few times (50 +) without any negative issues.

I have 5/6 switch rod that I bought to try two handed, and it worked fine. I broke it in the door and they replaced it very quickly for the advertised fee. Seems like a good company.
Marty, Dave and John had a couple of them break. Not sure if they fixed the problems or not. I have one of the 5' 6", 3 weights and so far, I haven't had any problems...then again, I don't fish it much. lol.Quote:

Phil, I know John's been through a few. Fixed each time but warranty repairs aren't free - they're $35 per - and I've read elsewhere that others have had similar experiences. I can't speak from experience but I think it's the blanks in general. John's had THREE rods replaced or repaired - the 7/8 and both the 3s (9' and 5.5'). Maybe it's just him but at least one other WNYer went through three 10' 4wt rods. Perhaps they're a little rougher on rods than most!
No matter, if the overwhelming majority of customers aren't having problems then I guess they're just fine.
I forgot about John's 11' 7/8. lol. I know when Dave's 490 broke, he really wasn't doing anything crazy. It just snapped. I looked down stream and his nine footer was about a seven footer. lol. I'm afraid to use mine! lol.Quote:

I still use the 4piece 9' 4wt occasioally that they upgraded me to when I broke the 2 piece in Pa. I very much like the action but in truth I do not use it as much as I used to. The owner called me awhile back (6 months) maybe and asked if I was having any issues. Thought that was cool. I also saw the add in American Angler and thought he was doing quite well in order to afford that kind of advertising. He has some new reels I was thinking of trying too.
Dave, I thought you had him refund the money for it? I saw those reels, too. American made! Don't see that much these days. I'd like to check them out, too.
No he upgraded me to a 4 piece and then I bought a 2nd one and sold one of them.
I took a look at their website and kind of liked what I saw. What I gathered however, was that they are either selling their products faster than they can make them or production has slowed way down. Most of what I looked at in the 4-5 & 6 weight category (rods & reels) indicated that they were out of stock.
All I can say is you tend to get what you pay for. If you want a quality rod, put up the $$ for one. If you want a beater rod to lend your friends who are learning get a cheap-o rod. Dont expect much though IMO.
Thank you to all who responded. The potential breakage issue is certainly a significant one even if it comes with a warranty. Quite honestly I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on a purchase, but I did think the product looked compelling for the price.

Spending a lot of $$ does not guarantee a quality rod, nor does spending less $$ mean you will not get quality. A couple of my favorite rods are Cortland Brook series <$200 and another is a Reddington CPS that I paid $150 for, which compares favorably with a Sage XP. Yes I do have some Sages, and mostly they don't get fished as much. For the Angler who does not fish 100 days a year minimum, I do not see the need to invest a huge amount of money in top end rods, unless you just have a lot of money to play with. For the "average Joe" you can get quality components and very good performance for $200 or less and not feel cheated in any way.
