New Update on My Son
I have been posting updates on my son since Dec 2006 when he was blow up by that IED in Iraq and I hope they will allow this post to stay here since this is the board all the other post were made and it's time you guys see him for a change. He is finally able to walk on his leg without crutches and all so it's finally got right after the 4 separate surgeries to take the leg off.
I only feel it's right that I come back now a show this as you guys have supported us all through out all of this for a long time and I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all!
Randy was sent to caddy for Jack Nicklaus when the PGA called the Wounded Warrior people for someone injured in the war to come do this and he was picked.
Again my family and I really appreciate all the prayers and support you guys gave.

Skip,
Thanks for the update and the great photo. Having sons aproximately the same age as yours makes your story that much more impactful to me. Please let him know that his service, support and sacrafice for our country is very much appreciated.
Take care can God Bless

God bless your son for the sacrifice he made. My son Aaron fought in Iraq (Central Bahgdad), was injured, and got an honorable medical discharge from the Army. I am just glad that he is alive. This year the tyers from Sno-Fly VIII Midge swap (see on smallstreams.com) are contributing Midges to the local (Tucson, AZ) Wounded Warriors (Operation Healing Waters). Even this can nevedr be enough thanks for all that our men and women in the military have done for our country.
Cheers & Tight Lines !!!!!!

That is a once in a life time picture standing next to the legendary Jack Nicklaus. My hat goes off to your son for serving this country, God Bless him.

Skip,
I just bet Randy was thrilled to beat all get out to caddy for "The Bear". What a deal! Don't forget Jack is an addicted fly fisherman. No doubt in my mind if Jack was asked, Randy could share a spot on his boat, or for that matter his plane for a little fishin'.
The kid looks like fullback material. Glad the Docs could do for him what they could. Your boy's got plenty of life ahead of him, and I can tell he's got the family to back him up.
Best wishes and a crisp military salute to you all!

Skip,
It was good talking with you a bit ago on the phone and many thanks for posting and including the photo. For those of you who do not know, Skip's son is one of our Special Forces guys (Green Beret). Thank him for his service, for all of us Delbert! He is still on active duty down in Florida.

I'm so happy for you that your son is home, safe, and regaing his health. God and all Americans should bless him for his service.
-
Thank you all so much and we all appreciate the well wishes and prayers. It's been a long road, but only one thing left really and that is he needs some padding on his buttocks as he has none so when he sits it is sitting on bone basically.

Skip, thank you for the update on your son. Please thank him for me, for his sacrifice. God has blessed y'all by bringing him home, glad to hear he is recovering well. He must have enjoyed himself on the golf course, the picture says it all. As for some padding in the rear, I have some I'll be glad to give him, no charge and would not want it back. Take care, God Bles all, John.

God Bless Him, You & the rest of your family....So many have given so much...........

Skip,
Wonderful to see your son being able to progress to the point he has. As a fellow vet I also salute his service, and you and your family, who no doubt have played a huge part in his continuing recovery. I wish you all the best, and thank your son Randy for his sacrifice - one of our TRUE AMERICAN HEROES!!!!
Respectfully yours, Dave S.

The resilience of these young men to overcome these injuries and resume life is amazing. Thanks to him and all his comrades for their bravery and sacrifice.
The advances they are making in prosethetics is also amazing, it is probably just a matter of time before the NFL has to decide if you can be a kicker if one of your legs is non-natural.
God bless him and your family, I know it could not have been easy of you and Mom either.
-
Glad to see your son is getting around, and doing things he enjoys. Tell him I thank him for his service. My son is seriously considering joining the Marines. He graduates this May.
-
Thanks for the update. I remember the posts from the time. So glad to see it's all come right in the end. Thanks to you son.

I should have posted this while the thread was still hot, but let me bump the thread up again. This is one of my all time favorite short stories from Traver and when I read it I get a little emo. It's not a long story, so bare with it till the end, that is where the emotion is. It's worth the feeling.I think it's relevant.

hairwing,
Read that story many years ago. It's a classic. You can't help but get that old lump in your throat! This story has some added meaning to me, because I know I have stood in the very spot that he alludes to in his story. Was lucky enough to fish the Escanaba River for many years while living in the U.P. of Mich. It's a wonderful place to fish - I miss it!!
Best regards, Dave S.
