i have been reading up on these thingamabobber strike indicators and everyone i read about is rantin and ravin that there so good. i am looking for an indicator that doesnt take to long to change depth, just wondering what you guys think about this product?

Yep, use them all the time for nymphing. Before, I used all the different styrafoam and polypopylene inidcators, even making mhy own --- the thingamabobbers have made my life easier and they float. The only thing that I sometimes have problems with is they can slide down the line -- especially on really small lines.
I have been using them for the past year and have been happy with them. But they do have to be placed on the butt section of the leader or they will move. They work great for deep nymph rigs.
the times i've fished with them--on new waters with a guide--they have invariably begun to leak after a half hour or so. this makes them heavy and ultimately defeats their purpose.
you can make yarn indicators with little rubber bands that work and adjust the same way and don't leak. personally, I use two or three strands of antron yarn tied in a knot and put on the leader with a lark's head knot. they are very subtle and you can change color according to the fishing situation.
I like em. They move very easily when you want (and sometimes when you don'taccording to some). I have read some negative comments about them slipping on their own too easily but i haven't really experienced that myself. Give em a shot, there are so many different types of indicators out there you have to find the ones that match your situations. Leak?????? i've used one for a week straight and had NO leaks. My .02

Never had a problem with them leaking.
They'll stay secure on the butt section, but have heard that on the thinner portions of the leader, they will move.
Of course, if you are using a knotted tapered leader, there wouldn't be much room to move to begin with since the knot would act as a stopper.
I've never had one leak. However, if you take your equipment on an airplane, the luggage compartments are not pressurized so take them in your carry on luggage. Even the passenger compartment is not pressurized to sea level. A 767 passenger compartment is set to 6900 ft. minimum pressure.
What happens is that the air in the Thingamabobber expands as the ourside air pressure decreases. Ultimately, a leak will occur. It is just like a helium ballon that ultimately explodes whn it rises high enough.
Buy the ones that are not as plump if you are going to take them on an airplane or drive through a high mountain pass.
I like them. For thier size, they have the greatest flotation of any commercial SI. That means they are easier to cast, will not go under as easily when you add weight, and they float higher. But they are not the most sensitve to subtle takes.
If I made them, I would also make a version in contrasting light and dark colors. A half white and half black indicator would be visible in low light and bright light conditions
i guess i will buy a pack then and try them. i was just wondering what other people thought of them because you cant always trust some of those reveiws.

Ive used them for about a year, when you insert the loop thru the top, twist it a half turn before looping it over the bulb, it keeps it from slipping.
Never had one leak. I use the smallest ones.

Then you would like the ones I use...red and white, made of plastic, and they clip on the line and don't slide around very easy. Best is, they are about a buck per 3 at Wal MartQuote:

LOL Steve. You know I don't take things personally.
One of my best fishing buddies, Jim Greenlee, who is a dry fly addict, once gave me a Christmas present. I opened it and it was some well used flies with rusted hooks and some red and white bobbers. I rewrapped it and although Gary Borger lives just a few miles away, I sent it to him by UPS. I think Gary UPSed it back to Jim. We all had a good laugh over that. Jim and Gary developed the Gary Borger wading boot and Jim's company, Weinbrenner, manufactured it.
Jim passed away this past winter and we will celebrate Jim in June at his home on the Madison River near the Raynold's Pass Bridge. Red and white bobbers are one of my best memories of Jim. So I'm not at all insulted.

If I insulted anyone with the red/white bobber comment, that was not my intent. I actually use them, and I enjoy the stares.
LOL. I didn't think anybody was going to get insulted. I figured we were going to get into the strike indicator vs. bobber thing all over again. It's probably been a good 6 months.
I'll admit to trying the red and white bobber thing. Can't remember what happened. I think the bobber exploded and sent shrapnel everywhere.
Anyway, the thingamabobbers are good but I also like Micro Balls. The rubber band used to hold the leader in place sticks out the top and gives a good indication of where the fly is relative to the indicator.
I use the 1/2" ones and love them. They stay put as long as they're on the butt section of the leader.
I'll add one more endorsement. I've used them for at least two years now and have never seen any sign of leakage. If their manufacturer ever figures out the slippage problem on the thinner sections of the leader and/or tippet, it will unquestionably mark the end my quest for the elusive "perfect" indicator. Easy on/off, easy to adjust depth, light, bouyant, etc., etc. I favor the white ones in the smallest size I can get away with, the reasoning being that it might look more like an innocent foam bubble to a wary fish, whereas I don't think there are too many natural items floating down the stream in flourescent orange, yellow, etc.
I took no offense at the red/white bobber thing.
They are the ticket for indicator nynphing. I have had them slip.....and solved it easily. Once you pass the loop through the bobber..give it 2 twists before looping back over the thingamabobber. They stay put.

The biggest problem that I have with round bobbers/ indicators is that direction of the fly is sometimes questionable. While these are not as easy to change depth, with the long slender indicator I can better tell where my fly is and see slighter movements. I prefer to use these Lindy walleye floats.
