a little ice fishing rod, 3 feet long or so with a fat yarn for a line, well yes.
Lee and Joan Wulff used and sold them some years ago, called a Fly-O
The ones we have use a bright pink yard for a line. They do work for teaching the casting stroke and how to 'stop' can be used indoors sitting in a chair even. I haven't seen the Rajef version, just guessing.:lol:
I went over to Home Depot and bought a chunk of 3/8" hardwood dowel. I put a piece of yarn about 6' long on it and work at casting nice tight loops with that. It may not have the "feel" of a fly rod, but it helps make the motions automatic. Sounds silly but it has helped the casting.
It was recommended by a Scientific Anglers DVD I picked up at Walmart that I can not find right now to tell you who the instructor was.
The MPR is a good tool, better than the Fly-O.
You can use the top half of a fly rod or spinning rod as a substitute for a complete rod. I can't seem to find the yarn anywhere. It used to be called tow yarn.

Since we're on the subject of those mini practice rods, which type of line/yarn is best for them?
On the Wulff Fly-O's my club has, the yarn they came with only lasted a solid day or two before being shred to tarnation.
It came out at about A #365. I had a heck of a time deflecting that 3' dowel a foot. :lol:Quote:
